Some automakers are completely out of touch, to say the least. They don’t seem to have their finger on the pulse or, in some cases, even seem to care what their fans want. That’s not the case with Nissan, though. Ahead of SEMA 2026, it revealed a trio of enthusiast-aimed builds it will have on display, including an insane Datsun restomod it developed with Chris Forsberg.
As much appreciation as there is for top-notch restorations, restomods are way more fun. They deliver all the looks of a timeless icon, combined with modern advancements that elevate the driving experience to a whole new level. When putting together a true driver-type restomod, turning to someone like Forsberg, a decorated professional drifter, is the natural choice—at least with Nissan’s budget behind the project. Forsberg and crew turned out what is arguably the greatest Datsun restomod we’ve ever seen.
Dubbed the Datsun S30 concept, this machine is packing serious heat from NISMO. Starting with what most enthusiasts care about, it features a twin-turbo VR30DDTT engine from the new Z breathing through two Garrett PMAX turbochargers. Behind it is an FS6 six-speed manual transmission with an R200 limited-slip differential out back.
As one would expect with a proper restomod, the suspension is far from stock, with an extensive list of upgrades from Techno Toy Tuning. Everything from the front crossmember outward has been upgraded to help this thing maneuver like it’s on rails, and the rear receives the same treatment.
Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners keep things under control, while NISMO forged wheels and X-Comp HP tires put all the power to the ground. A tasteful balance of exterior carbon fiber components and aero upgrades completes the look and that Nissan Seiran Blue paint is clearly the perfect choice for a build like this.
As impressive as this car is, it won’t be the only sole machine in Nissan’s SEMA lineup. Nissan has also developed a nutty build called Project NAT2 SCCA Touring 2 Z, an equally insane take on the newest Z. A 300-whp Nissan Sentra Spec-V Concept will also be on display to showcase what’s possible with a four-door counterpart. Suffice it to say, NISMO will have plenty to gawk at in Las Vegas next week.
