Summary

The BMW 3 Series is an upmarket mid-sized saloon. This is the eighth generation range which consists of petrol mild-hybrid models, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain to follow later. It was revealed in early 2026 and is expected to arrive on UK roads early next year.

The range also includes the all-electric i3 saloon, which we cover separately. The 3 Series line-up is part of BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ programme. It adopts the same minimalist design language and advanced electrical architecture as the EV models, but adapted for petrol and hybrid engine options.

UK pricing and final specifications have yet to be finalised. The launch line-up consists of two petrol engine choices equipped with 48V of mild-hybrid assistance, the range-topper being a ‘M350 xDrive’ variant powered by a mild-hybrid inline six-cylinder engine.

Initially available as a four-door saloon, a Touring estate body style will join the line-up later in the 2027. UK pricing and final specifications have yet to be finalised.

We expect the first media reviews to be published by the end of the year. Once there is a collection of review scores to present, as well as running cost estimations and Euro NCAP safety credentials, we will update this page with an Expert Rating score. Check back soon!
