BMW Motorrad confirmed 2027 model-year updates for the R12 G/S this week, and while the mechanicals stay exactly as they are, the changes are more substantive than a simple color swap. A new Option 719 paint finish, revised package pricing, and expanded standard equipment give buyers clearer choices heading into the 2027 order window, which opens in August 2026.

The R12 G/S has been one of BMW Motorrad’s most talked-about recent launches, blending the visual DNA of the original 1980 R 80 G/S with a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin producing 109 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque. That formula hasn’t changed for 2027. What has changed is how the bike is dressed and what comes in the box when you tick the option packages.

The headline update for 2027 is a new Option 719 colorway: Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic, described as a hematite-toned finish with accents in Racing Red and Mineral Grey Metallic Matte. It replaces the Sand Rover Matte that previously held the premium color slot and carries a $2,025 price premium over the base Night Black Matte.

Three colors are available in total. Night Black Matte remains the entry point at $17,095 with no color surcharge. Light White adds $345, bringing the bike to $17,440. The Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic tops the range at $19,120. That’s a meaningful jump for the top finish, but Option 719 colors on BMW motorcycles have historically held their appeal—and resale value—well. Whether the grey reads as a genuine upgrade over the outgoing sand tone is a matter of taste, but it does lean harder into the retro enduro character the R12 G/S was built around.

Package Updates: Premium Goes Up, Enduro Pro Comes Down Slightly

The equipment packages see modest but notable reshuffling for 2027. The Premium Package rises to $2,000 from $1,805—a $195 increase—but now bundles in Connected Ride Control with a smartphone mount and USB-C socket. That’s a practical addition for riders who use navigation on longer tours, and it brings the R12 G/S in line with connectivity features increasingly expected at this price point.

The Enduro Package Pro, meanwhile, dips slightly to $875 from $880—essentially unchanged. It remains the package that genuinely expands the bike’s off-road capability: an 18-inch rear wheel (swapping the stock 17-inch), enduro footrests, handlebar risers, a hand lever protector, and a large engine guard. For riders who actually plan to take the R12 G/S onto dirt and gravel, this package is where the real-world difference lives. Gold Cross Spoke Wheels are also available through dealer ordering for $65. All 2027 BMW motorcycles now include the Ultimate Care Break-In Service as standard equipment.

Should You Wait for 2027 Or Buy 2026 Inventory Now?

BMW Motorrad

The honest answer depends on which package matters to you. If Connected Ride Control is on your list, the 2027 Premium Package now includes it—so waiting makes sense rather than paying for it separately. If you’re primarily after the Enduro Package Pro for off-road use, the pricing is nearly identical and the mechanicals are unchanged, so a well-priced 2026 unit is just as capable.

The Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic finish is the one genuinely 2027-exclusive element. If the new color speaks to you, that alone may justify the wait—Option 719 finishes aren’t available on prior-year inventory. Orders open in August 2026, so the gap between deciding and riding won’t be long either way.

The R12 G/S’s core platform—a 21-inch front wheel, 8.3 inches of front suspension travel, selectable Road/Rain/Enduro ride modes, and ABS Pro with Dynamic Traction Control as standard—carries over untouched. BMW is clearly managing this model with incremental refinement rather than wholesale redesign, which is a reasonable strategy for a bike that launched to strong reviews and has a clear identity in the adventure segment.

F900 R And R1300 RS Also Updated For 2027

BMW Motorrad

The R12 G/S leads the 2027 refresh, but BMW Motorrad is also updating the F900 R and R1300 RS. The F900 R gains a revised Comfort Package that includes an M Endurance Chain with Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating—a durability and low-maintenance upgrade that will appeal to high-mileage riders. The R1300 RS receives its own color and equipment revisions. Neither model’s updates are as buyer-facing as the R12 G/S changes, but they confirm BMW is running a broad model-year refresh across the range rather than singling out one platform.

For adventure bike shoppers with the R12 G/S on their radar, the 2027 updates don’t reinvent the bike—but they don’t need to. The new grey finish, a more complete Premium Package, and the unchanged Enduro Package Pro give buyers a cleaner set of options than before. August 2026 is when orders open; that’s the practical deadline for anyone weighing 2026 stock against a 2027 build.
