Every once in a while, you come across a build that’s so crazy you absolutely have to take notice. That’s what this car is all about. What was once a wrecked lost cause of an iconic 2000s supercar was turned into one of the wildest custom builds we’ve seen in a while.
A lot of people have had a go at doing crazy Lamborghini builds in the past. We’ve all seen the videos of twin-turbocharged Gallardos and Huracans setting absolutely crazy times on the drag strip. While those are cool, they’re often designed more for performance than looks. The build we’re going to talk about, however, was designed to wow visually as well as go fast.
Throtl are no stranger to doing crazy high-performance builds, or building crazy show cars. So, it’s no surprise that this year they’ve created one of the maddest Lamborghini Murciélagos we’ve ever seen. Built in partnership with WD-40, this car is an absolute monster in all respects. The heart of it all is a fully-built 6.5-liter V12 engine, taken from the Murciélago LP640. This engine build includes two Garrett turbochargers, and a MoTeC engine management system. The power goes to the wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission – this was a conversion job, using the Royalty Exotics 6-speed gated manual conversion.
When it comes to the choices that aren’t all about speed and power, this car is absolutely loaded with custom features. It’s got custom forged wheels made by HRE Performance, a completely bespoke leather and alcantara interior by AP Upholstery and Air Lift performance air suspension. Yes, you read that right – this massively powerful, twin-turbocharged Lamborghini supercar has air ride!
While this car is now a show queen, that’s nowhere near the condition Throtl found it in. It needed a lot of work, due to how it had been wrecked in the past. That might put off a Lamborghini purist who wants to do a sympathetic restoration. But, it was no problem to the Throtl team, who from the outset were going to replace a lot of the Murcie’s components. Torrey Pines Collision Center did the full body restoration, which included fitting the Liberty Walk body kit and doing the striking white and blue custom paint job.
Perhaps one of the coolest features of this Murcie is that it’s got a Liberty Walk Silhouette Works Murciélago GT EVO Widebody conversion kit. That helps make this car a really special breed. Only a handful of Murciélagos (around 20) have a Liberty Walk body kit in any form. When it comes to the specific type on this car, there are only four in the entire world that have them.
Love them or loathe them, Liberty Walk body kits are here to stay. They certainly help to make a show build really stand out!
While this Murcielago build might be the first some people have heard of Throtl’s crazy builds, the company actually has a past with building crazy Sema specials. It did a build based on the 2005 Ford GT for 2025’s Sema Show, which was also done in collaboration with WD-40. “We chose the Murciélago as a car that could stand alongside the Ford GT as its own icon,” Throtl’s lead builder Quinn Clark said about the link between these two cars.
Once Throtl had finished this crazy build, there was only one place where its craziness could be properly shown off. That’s this year’s Sema show in Las Vegas. That means it’s shared space with some of the wildest builds we’ve covered this year, including a twin-turbocharged restomodded Datsun Z and a carbon fibre-bodied Shelby GT500 with 1,000 horsepower. This also includes another crazy Throtl build that many of us enthusiasts are sure to be excited about…
The latest version of the Honda Prelude is a great car. But, a lot of enthusiasts have been left feeling a little cold by its moderate performance and lack of a manual transmission. Throtl’s decided to solve this, in its own way. It built its own Prelude Type R, and as part of that they gave it a proper 6-speed manual transmission. Throtl already knew that the Prelude’s chassis would be able to take the power of the Honda Civic Type R’s powertrain. So, they did it, doing the necessary modifications to be able to get that powertrain in.
