Desert Power Wagons just unveiled Project Colossus, a six-wheel-drive crew cab that looks like a classic Dodge Power Wagon and hits like a modern supertruck. Revealed October 27, the bespoke build starts life as a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX and ends up with roughly 1,000 horsepower, three axles, and a price tag of $599,950.
The truck’s silhouette borrows the upright grille, long hood, and muscular fenders that made the original Power Wagon instantly recognizable. But underneath that satin charcoal-gray bodywork sits a heavily reworked TRX platform, built by Tisdale Coachworks into a four-door crew cab with six driven wheels instead of the usual four.
The TRX’s 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI SRT V8 normally makes 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque straight from the factory. National Speed’s Stage-3 package pushes that to approximately 1,000 horsepower and 925 lb-ft, using a custom NS1 camshaft from Cam Motion, Brian Tooley Racing valve springs and pushrods, a Kong Performance-ported supercharger snout and bearing plate, a 108mm Nick Williams throttle body, and Injector Dynamics ID1050x fuel injectors.
Supporting hardware includes a ZPE GripTec 2.85-inch upper supercharger pulley, a Gates HD Fleetrunner belt, a pinned crankshaft, Stainless Works long-tube headers, and GSport by GESi catalytic converters. National Speed handled the PCM unlocking and ran HP Tuners-based calibration on its DynoJet 424xLC2 chassis dyno. That’s a full valvetrain-to-tailpipe overhaul, not a bolt-on supercharger pulley and a tune.
The six-wheel-drive system is the mechanical core of Colossus, not a cosmetic add-on. A full-time BorgWarner transfer case provides 6WD Auto, High, and Low ranges, feeding power through a Dana 60 rear axle fitted with an electronic locking differential. Bilstein Black Hawk e2 active dampers and upgraded brakes handle the extra mass and power.
All six corners ride on 38×11.50R18 Toyo Open Country R/T tires mounted to black Black Rhino BR012 Outback wheels, giving the truck a stance that’s hard to miss from any angle. A WARN VR EVO 12-S winch rated at 12,000 pounds sits up front for genuine recovery duty, while AMP Research PowerStep side steps make the tall cabin easier to climb into.
Power still routes through the TRX’s TorqueFlite 8HP95 eight-speed automatic, with launch control, launch assist, and eight drive modes, Auto, Sport, Snow, Custom, Mud/Sand, Rock, Baja, and Tow, plus a separate Valet mode for when someone else is driving.
Inside, Pinecone Distressed leather covers the seats, door cards, and dash accents, giving the cabin a worn-in character that plays against the TRX’s digital gauge cluster and 12.0-inch Uconnect touchscreen with navigation. JL Audio supplies the sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control and a ParkView backup camera cover daily comfort, and a Vastfire fiber-optic starlight headliner adds an unexpected touch after dark.
Desert Power Wagons frames Colossus as proof that the classic Power Wagon’s working-truck honesty and a thousand-horsepower modern drivetrain aren’t opposing ideas. The truck is currently listed for acquisition through the company’s Wilmington, North Carolina facility.
