Young Barbadian racer joins Season 11 World Champion ahead of GEN4

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Formula E Team will field Oliver Rowland and Zane Maloney as its driver line-up for the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which marks the first season of the new GEN4 era.

Rowland continues for a fourth consecutive campaign as part of a multi-year agreement with Nissan Formula E Team. The Brit has built a strong relationship with the Japanese manufacturer over the years, having originally joined its Formula E program as a rookie in Season 5 (2018/19), which was also Nissan’s first year in the sport. Since returning to the team during the GEN3 era in Season 10 (2023/24), Rowland has enjoyed some of the most successful years of his career, including claiming the Drivers’ World Championship in Season 11. In the last campaign, he earned six podiums, including a victory on the streets of Monaco, securing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship and maintaining his record of top-four finishes in every season since his return.

Meanwhile, Maloney enters his third season in the all-electric series, having gained valuable experience across his first two campaigns, scoring top-10 finishes in São Paulo, Monaco and Tokyo in 2025/26. The Barbadian earned his opportunity in Formula E after a highly successful junior career, impressing across the 2023 and 2024 Formula 2 seasons with 11 podiums, including two wins, and finishing fourth in the last year. His Formula E experience, combined with his proven pace in Formula 2, will provide a strong foundation as he enters the GEN4 era with Nissan Formula E Team.

Season 13 will see the introduction of the GEN4 cars featuring a major jump in performance compared to the previous GEN3 machinery. Race power increases from 300kW to 450kW, with drivers receiving a huge 600kW while in Attack Mode, compared to the current 350kW. Additionally, Active All-Wheel Drive gives the car impressive acceleration, with the extra grip allowing for remarkable cornering speeds.

The pair will continue preparations for this new era ahead of Pre-Season Testing at Circuito del Jarama, Spain, on 16-20 November.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: ‘We’re delighted to confirm Oliver and Zane as our driver line-up for Season 13. Oli has been an important part of our Formula E journey, having joined the team as a rookie back in Season 5. Since then, he has gone from being a young driver to becoming a World Champion with us, and we’re very happy to continue that relationship as we enter the GEN4 era. Zane brings a different profile. He’s young but already has two seasons of Formula E experience, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him. His results in Formula 2 showed the level of talent he has, and we see GEN4 as the perfect opportunity for him to build on those skills, making it a very fitting next step in his career. We’re looking forward to working with him and giving him the environment he needs to perform at his best. With Zane joining Oli we have an exciting combination of experience and youth, and we’re confident this line-up gives us a strong starting point for the GEN4 era.’

Oliver Rowland, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: ‘I’m delighted to continue with Nissan for our seventh season together and fourth consecutive one with Nissan Formula E Team. With the GEN4 car coming in, we’re going to see a big step in performance and it’s something we’re really excited for. I’m looking forward to Zane joining the team, he’s had a great junior career and two years of experience in Formula E, which puts him in a good position to start Season 13 strongly. Heading into the future with Nissan Formula E Team is very exciting and we’re aiming to improve on our performances from this year.’

Zane Maloney, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: ‘I’m very excited to join Nissan Formula E Team. When I came into Formula E, the team was winning the championship with Oli, so it’s a great chance for me to now join a top manufacturer. I’ve spent the last two seasons with a new team, developing my skills and trying to get the best results we could, so I’m really looking forward to taking this next step in my career. It’s also a great opportunity to be teammates with Oli. He’s a World Champion and someone I watched when I was growing up, first winning races in Formula 2 and then in Formula E, so to be alongside him and learn from him will be really valuable. GEN4 is a big opportunity for everyone to develop quickly, and I’ll be doing everything I can to prepare well and hit the ground running from the first race. A big thank you to Nissan Formula E Team for the trust in me. I’m really looking forward to getting started and achieving some very good results together.’
