Jay Leno Rips Open This 920-HP Secret Porsche Hypercar
A Porsche 911 Turbo S is already brutally fast. Most owners would struggle to find anything wrong with its 640 horsepower or all-wheel-drive grip. But, someone out there looked at this already awesome sports car and said… “This needs more!”
The secretive British engineering firm, RML, has spent decades working behind the curtain on championship-winning race cars and high-performance projects for major automakers. Now, it has finally put its own name on something outrageous. RML CEO Paul Dickinson brought the P39 40SE to Jay Leno’s Garage, where Jay peeled back its carbon-fiber skin and discovered that almost nothing underneath had escaped modification. It may have started as a Porsche, but calling it a tuned Turbo S feels like calling Godzilla an irritated lizard.
RML Turned A 911 Turbo S Into A Le Mans Monster
The P39 40SE uses the bones of a 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S, but RML completely reworked its body, suspension, aerodynamics, chassis, and engine. Its carbon-fiber shell takes inspiration from the wild Porsche 911 GT1, creating a longer, wider, and far more aggressive machine. It looks like a modern Le Mans Hypercar that escaped the paddock, found a license plate, and immediately started behaving badly.
Active aerodynamic elements at the front and rear help glue it to the pavement, while a driver-controlled drag-reduction system flattens those elements for greater straight-line speed. The suspension can also lower the entire car into Track mode or raise it for real roads.
That means owners can attack a circuit without removing the front splitter on the first mildly ambitious driveway. Progress!
This Secret Porsche Packs 920 HP And Massive Downforce
RML upgrades the Turbo S’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six with larger turbochargers, improved intercoolers, new manifolds, revised engine management, and an Inconel exhaust. The result is 920 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. RML claims the P39 can hit 60 mph in approximately 2.4 seconds and continue to a top speed beyond 200 mph. Straight-line violence is only half the story. The P39 reportedly generates around 1,460 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, more than four times as much as the standard Turbo S. Push deeper into triple-digit speeds, and it can produce enough aerodynamic pressure to make the tires consider filing a workplace complaint.
RML originally targeted a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Its latest simulations reportedly suggest the P39 could run in the low six-minute-and-30-second range, although a verified production-car lap has not yet been published.
Jay Leno Discovers Why It Costs Hypercar Money
The P39’s cabin remains recognizably Porsche, which is precisely the point. RML wanted more downforce and track pace than a GT3 RS without destroying the Turbo S’s everyday comfort. There are supportive seats, four-point harnesses, bespoke trim, and a roll cage where the rear seats once lived. However, the climate control, infotainment, visibility, and basic usability remain. It is a Le Mans-inspired missile that does not punish its owner for encountering traffic.
Naturally, this level of engineering costs more than several perfectly good houses. Pricing starts at approximately £450,000, or around $610,000 at current exchange rates, before taxes and the donor Porsche are added. The 40SE is limited to only 10 cars, while total P39 production is capped at 39 examples.
That makes it brutally expensive, incredibly rare, and almost completely unnecessary, which also means that it’s exactly the kind of machine that belongs in Jay Leno’s garage.
