Honda Extends Pole Position Streak in RainAffected Road America 120

Honda continued its impressive qualifying run in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge competition, earning a fourth-consecutive pole position before a challenging, weather-affected Road America 120 limited the manufacturer’s ability to convert its front-row start into a podium finish.

LP Montour secured his third pole position in a row, and Honda’s fourth, on board the #93 MMG Honda. The #5 TMR Honda completed yet another front-row lockout, making it an all-Honda front row for the two-hour round.

The race began in difficult conditions following an earlier period of rain, creating changing grip levels and an immediate strategic challenge. Despite the conditions, the field completed the opening hour in green-flag running before a series of full course cautions interrupted the race as the track dried.

The MMG Honda ultimately lost ground early in the race after experiencing a lack of braking performance, but nevertheless continued to fight forward as conditions evolved. As the circuit transitioned from wet to dry, MMG regained three positions during a pit stop near the one-hour mark, moving from seventh to fourth. MMG then went on to run nose-to-tail with the front-running cars, but repeated caution periods prevented them from making a decisive move for a podium spot.

Meanwhile, the TMR entry initially moved into the race lead before being passed by a competitor. They regained the top spot during an early pit-stop cycle, but elected to take tires on its subsequent stop while much of the field opted to take fuel only. The additional service time cost valuable track position, with a succession of caution periods further hindering their recovery.

The race ultimately ended under caution following another incident involving a GS-class car, leaving MMG fourth and TMR outside the top five.

Elsewhere in the field, the #72 Pegram Racing Honda completed a clean and trouble-free race to finish seventh—earning their best finish of the year—with the #89 HART Honda crossing the line just behind in eighth.
