Summary
The DS Nº4 is a family-sized hatchback which is now available to order in the UK with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. There is also an all-electric ‘E-Tense’ version, which we cover here.
While a new model, the Nº4 is essentially a comprehensive facelift of the DS 4 hatchback (which is still available new), now part of the brand’s latest ‘Nº’ range, which includes the larger electric DS Nº8 coupé-SUV.
Praising the car for its “eye-catching” exterior looks, Alastair Crooks of Auto Express argues that the Nº4 delivers “supreme comfort” and a “premium feel” interior, while noting that practicality is “ok” rather than impressive, with “cramped rear seats” and “laggy” infotainment hindering its appeal.
Not all found the car’s comfort particularly impressive. Car’s Luke Wilkinson concludes that “the comfort the No.4 offers isn’t consistent enough to recommend it over the Audi A3 or BMW 1 Series“, adding that refinement is particularly disappointing for the plug-in hybrid variant, and “the infotainment system is going to irritate you every time you’re forced to interact with it.”

The DS Nº4 is a relatively affordable car to own and run, according to whole-life cost numbers provided exclusively to The Car Expert by our data partner, Clear Vehicle Data.
In the petrol-electric hybrid category, the DS 4’s average fuel economy of 54mpg sits slightly ahead of the mild-hybrid BMW 1 Series, which can muster up to 52mpg. If you choose the plug-in hybrid version, DS claims an official 232mpg and an 50-mile electric-only travel range. However, the Audi A3 40 TFSIe dominates this segment with a larger battery pack that pushes its official electric range past 80 miles.
When it comes to the insurance bracket, the DS 4’s average of group 27 means its slightly more expensive to insure than both the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series.

DS’s new car warranty is fairly basic, and worse than some rival brands in a similar price bracket as the Nº4.
The duration is three years, with a limit of 60,000 miles (unlimited mileage in the first two years and limited to 60K miles in the third year). In addition to the standard new car warranty, the Nº4 petrol-electric hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions come with an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery components.
Warranty on a used DS Nº4
- If you are buying an ‘Approved Used’ DS Nº4 from an official DS dealership, you will get a minimum one-year warranty included.
- If you are buying a used DS Nº4 from an independent dealership, any warranty offered will vary and will probably be managed by a third-party warranty company.
- If you are buying a used DS Nº4 from a private seller, there are no warranty protections beyond any remaining portion of the original new car warranty.
