The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed played host to a spectacular weekend for petrolheads, motorsport fans and technology lovers alike – and BYD Group was right at the heart of the action.

For each of the roughly 200,000 guests that flocked to the picturesque country grounds in West Sussex, the BYD Group stand would have been impossible to ignore. That was due in part to its sheer scale; at 2,016 square metres, it was the largest stand ever presented at the Festival of Speed. But despite its obvious presence, it was the cars it hosted that stole the show, with guests getting incredible access to all of the latest models, before watching many of them take to the 1.16-mile hill route.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li commented: ‘It’s been an exciting privilege to play such a central role at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Our stand has been the focal point for thousands of visitors, who’ve been able to explore a host of new models – our incredible DENZA Z and DENZA BAO 5, as well as the BYD SHARK and, for the first time in the UK, the DOLPHIN G DM-i. We’ve really enjoyed meeting car enthusiasts from around the world, and it’s been a particular thrill to see our cars, such as the YANGWANG U9X, going up the iconic hillclimb. Goodwood really is a global centrepiece for car culture, and we’re delighted to have been able to show how our new-energy technologies are creating advances in sustainable mobility around the world.’

BYD: A WEEKEND OF SUPER HYBRID
Among the eight debuts from across the BYD, DENZA and YANGWANG brands, it was BYD that presented two key new models for the UK market. And while this pair might seem diametrically opposed in principle, both had a game-changing DNA coursing through their veins.

The DOLPHIN G DM-i sets new standards in the supermini class; not only for its class-leading practicality and slick infotainment system with Google built-in, but because of its Dual Mode Super Hybrid technology, which makes it the only PHEV in the segment. Combining an electric motor with a 1.5-litre petrol engine – which delivers a class-leading thermal efficiency of 43.06% – enables the DOLPHIN G DM-i to not only deliver performance that ranks it among the most potent in the supermini segment but also return as much as 208.1mpg – helping customers to save money in an area of the market where value matters more than any other.

A different take on the Super Hybrid technology was offered by the SHARK. Few cars at the event matched the domineering presence of the eye-catching pickup, which took to the hill like its namesake has taken to the open sea for millions of years. With 436PS, it can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds – comfortably quicker than any other pick-up on the UK market. Yet despite this, it can also drive for 55.9 miles on electric power alone, and 419 miles on a full tank of fuel and a full charge.

DENZA: STUNNING SUPERCAR DEBUTS ALONGSIDE REVOLUTIONARY FLASH CHARGING DEMOS
DENZA, the premium brand of the BYD Group, grabbed the limelight on Thursday with the global launch of the Z sports car. The striking looks provided star quality of its own, but the Z attracted automotive royalty, too; the covers of this 1604PS, 217mph coupe were pulled back in the presence of BYD’s Executive Vice President Stella Li, alongside 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, plus the host of the Festival of Speed itself, The Duke of Richmond.

From supercars to SUVs, the BAO 5 made its bow at Goodwood. The premium SUV with DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) technology combines opulent passenger comfort with staggering off-road capability. Special guests and members of the public got to experience this first-hand during passenger rides on the stand’s own off-road proving ground, while two more were parked in the main promenade running through the centre of the stand.

Further demonstrations of DENZA’s technical prowess were exhibited at the FLASH Charging station. Here, it was possible to witness charging speeds of up to 1,500kW, allowing the two demonstration cars, the DENZA Z Racing and the Z9GT, to charge from 10-70% in just five minutes.

YANGWANG: THE WORLD’S FASTEST, MOST OPULENT, AND MOST INTELLIGENT CARS
From the fastest public charging in the world, it was the privilege of YANGWANG to showcase speed of a more traditional kind. The U9 Xtreme is the world’s fastest production car with a top speed of 308.3mph. This comes courtesy of its four-motor, 1200V powertrain architecture, which delivers over 3000PS through all four wheels. Another U9 took pride of place at the entrance of the stand, and demonstrated its DiSus-X body control system by dancing on stage.

Alongside the record-breaking U9 Xtreme, the many different facets of YANGWANG were also on show; including the ultimate luxury SUV, the U8L, and the fiendishly intelligent U7 saloon. Prospective YANGWANG customers were hosted in the YANGWANG VIP Zone: situated on the BYD Group stand, it proved to be among the most exclusive venues of the 2026 Festival of Speed.

And the most exciting news of all for festival-goers? BYD will be back in 2027, once again looking to excite and inspire the hundreds of thousands of guests over the four days.
