At $17,000, This 1991 Buick Roadmaster Wagon Is A Rare Find—Would You Buy It?
Station wagons may have disappeared from car dealerships, but we sure do love a nice old wagon. For some of us classic car lovers, they’ve never really gone out of style. In fact, we think that some of them were the coolest family haulers from the 1980s, and even the ’90s. They are also becoming collectibles, and this beautiful Buick Roadmaster Wagon is proof of that.
At Mecum’s Harrisburg 2026 auction, a well-preserved 1991 Buick Roadmaster Wagon rolled across the block and sold for $17,000. On paper, it might seem like a lot of money for an old wagon, but this was a V8-powered machine with an impressive list of factory options, and with just over 61,000 miles on the clock, it actually makes a compelling case for itself.
Buick’s Forgotten Corvette-Powered Sleeper Wagon Muscle Car
Long before three-row SUVs took over American driveways, full-size station wagons were the go-to choice for families who needed space without sacrificing comfort. The Roadmaster was Buick’s flagship wagon, offering a smooth ride, a roomy cabin, and enough cargo capacity to swallow everything from camping gear to home improvement supplies. Under the hood sat a V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission, making it a relaxed highway cruiser that was built to rack up miles in comfort.
This particular example came exceptionally well-equipped from the factory. Sold new in Medina, Ohio, on April 17, 1991, it originally stickered at $25,391.57 before adding another $3,072 in factory options.
Among those options were Buick’s Prestige (SE) package, power seats, power windows, power locks, cruise control, Twilight Sentinel automatic headlights, a power antenna, heavy-duty cooling, an electric rear window defogger with heated outside mirrors, and a trailering package complete with a 3.23 limited-slip rear axle. This was truly the total packaged family car.
This one even retains its original window sticker and sales invoice, and those are details that collectors always appreciate. With just 61,316 miles clocked, it appears to have been driven sparingly over the past 35 years.
Is This Wagon Worth More Than You Think?
For $17,000, you could buy any number of used crossovers or compact SUVs with touchscreen infotainment, smartphone connectivity, and every modern convenience imaginable. But, none of those vehicles have the charm of a full-size American station wagon.
The Roadmaster represents an era when family cars prioritized comfort above all else. Its long roof, massive cargo area, plush interior, and effortless V8 power make it a completely different experience from today’s crossovers. It’s also the kind of vehicle that draws a crowd precisely because you almost never see them anymore.
Of course, you cannot expect a car of this age to be perfect. Fuel economy certainly won’t win any awards, and replacement parts for certain trim pieces can require some patience to track down. Still, $17,000 doesn’t feel all that outrageous when you consider what this car offers. It’s largely original, comes with extensive documentation, has relatively low mileage, and is equipped with those old-school luxury features that Buick offered at the time.
The car is actually usable. It could go the distance on a weekend road trip, you can load it up for a shopping run, or simply enjoy one of the last great American wagons. This Buick still has plenty of life left to give.
