Honda announced the new fifth-generation 2027 Africa Twin platform at EICMA 2026, with updates throughout. As part of the upgrade, the Japanese manufacturer has introduced a new flagship Adventure Sports trim featuring the Honda SENSING RIDE radar system. American Honda hasn’t confirmed if the updated Africa Twin range will be coming to the United States, nor has it confirmed if the Africa Twin Adventure Sports adventure bike with Honda SENSING RIDE radar system will come to the United States. We will update the story if and when it does. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about the new 2027 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports Honda SENSING RIDE.
The 2027 Honda CRF1150L Africa Twin lineup received a major overhaul for the coming model year, with the standard Africa Twin, Africa Twin Enduro Sports, and Africa Twin Adventure Sports helping to round out the new AT range. The most tech-rich addition is a radar-equipped version of the road-focused Adventure Sports model, dubbed the Adventure Sports Honda SENSING RIDE. That name is a mouthful, we know.
The Adventure Sports Honda SENSING RIDE is mechanically identical to the other variants but adds the new Honda SENSING RIDE front- and rear-radar system. Available with the DCT option, this radar system is exclusive to this model in the Honda lineup as of writing this article. Honda SENSING RIDE is a comprehensive suite of radar-based rider assistance technologies. It combines front and rear radar systems that continuously monitor surrounding traffic to enhance safety and comfort during long-distance adventures.
The radar system enables adaptive cruise control (ACC), which maintains a set speed and predefined following distance from vehicles ahead. ACC includes a stop-and-go function that keeps the bike moving in traffic, while distance assist helps the rider maintain a safe distance when operating the throttle manually. ACC also extends to Group Ride Assist, which adjusts the distance between motorcycles in a group. Emergency brake assist applies braking assistance if the system detects a collision risk ahead.
In addition to ACC, Honda SENSING RIDE also provides forward collision warning (FCW), which displays a warning on the instrument panel. A brake pulse complements it, using a brief, sharp, intentional application of the brakes as a haptic warning to get the rider’s attention. It works alongside FCW to offer additional alerts to the rider.
The rear radar provides blind-spot information, alerting the rider with a steady or flashing LED integrated into the mirrors when a vehicle enters the bike’s blind spot. Rear distance information alerts the rider to a vehicle approaching from behind via the instrument cluster, and rear collision warning rapidly flashes the indicators to alert following vehicles to the risk of a collision if they get too close.
Apart from the radar-assisted driving system, the Adventure Sports Honda SENSING RIDE is identical to the Adventure Sports DCT, except for curb weight. The radar tech adds over 22 pounds, bringing the bike’s curb weight from 562.17 pounds (DCT) to 564.38 pounds. The most obvious upgrade you’ll notice is the new, aggressive design with a mass-forward stance and a sleeker rear end that matches the upgrades under the skin.
At the heart of the bike is the new 1,131cc parallel-twin engine with heavily revised internals and a 2 mm wider bore, increasing output to 117.33 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 87.76 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm. The engine is mated to the DCT on this model, with revised shift schedules and incline detection, and is equipped to handle all riding conditions, including off-roading.
The chassis is also updated, shaving around 3 pounds when combined with the lighter aluminum swingarm. The Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) setup is standard for Europe and features new Honda Skyhook control that adapts damping forces in real time. Other new suspension bits include a beefier 49mm USD fork and a Minimum mode that lowers the seat height by 0.19 inches and remains selected even after the ignition is switched off. Suspension travel is 8.26 inches front and 7.87 inches rear. The 19/18-inch (front/rear) tubeless wire-spoke wheels are carried over.
As the adventure tourer version, it features a larger 6.39-gallon fuel tank, enabling a 298-mile range with a claimed 46 mpg fuel economy. Honda has also tweaked the riding triangle for better long-range comfort, and the windscreen is electronically adjustable by 5.11 inches and 10 degrees, complemented by dual deflectors. Other electronic upgrades include:
The reworked rider aids start with new adjustable options, including Sport, Touring, Urban, Rain, Offroad, and Offroad+. There are also combined ABS, switchable 7-level traction control, wheelie control, and vehicle hill hold.

The 2027 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports Honda SENSING RIDE will be available in Pearl Glare White and Mat Ballistic Black Metallic. Honda has unveiled the new 2027 Africa Twin platform for the UK market, but hasn’t revealed when the bike will arrive in the US. Similarly, there’s no word on the bike’s MSRP in any market yet.
