Buckle up for one heck of a trucking surprise. The most expensive Toyota Tacoma model isn’t one of the trim levels built to deliver ultimate luxury comfort. Instead, it’s a trim level that’s designed to do hard work while carrying all of your gear. It has everything you need for carrying off-roading and camping gear in one convenient package. Plus, it comes straight from the factory. Eliminating the need for a camper, or gaining the ability to set up a campsite anywhere for overlanding, can quickly become expensive.

The Toyota Tacoma Limited Isn’t The Most Expensive Option

The most expensive trim level for most trucks is often the ultimate luxury option. While the Toyota Tacoma Limited packs in tons of features for comfort and convenience, it only rings in with an MSRP of about $53,170 to $56,495 depending on the engine you pick. Also, these prices include the $1,595 destination fee.

The standard Tacoma Limited engine is the turbocharged i-FORCE 2.4-liter inline-four with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the available i-FORCE MAX Hybrid variant, which pairs the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with a 48-hp electric motor to produce 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

That is a significant power upgrade, but the real story with this trim level is opulence. It includes 18-inch chrome wheels, a sunroof, power running boards, a power tailgate, a bed storage box, a wireless trailer camera, trailer backup guides, an integrated trailer brake controller, and household-style power outlets.

But there is more. It also comes with synthetic leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, a 14-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with a removable Bluetooth center speaker, a 360-degree camera system, and wireless phone charging.

How Much Does The Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter Cost?

Drumroll, please. The 2026 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter starts at around $63,650 with standard configurations. But well-optioned builds with long beds or extra accessories land closer to $69,100 before dealer adjustments. Buyers should also budget for dealer fees. Also, the overlanding rig is only available with the hybrid i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter engine.

While traveling to a camping destination, occupants will be comfortable, as this rig includes most of the premium features from the Limited trim. It also includes features from the TRD Pro off-roading trim. However, it may be even more comfortable on bumpy trails because it has the IsoDynamic front seats that help to stabilize occupants.

The TRD Pro trim also has high-clearance front and rear bumpers, black 18-inch TRD Pro wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires, Fox internal bypass suspension dampers, a performance exhaust, a ‘Heritage’ Toyota grille with a light bar, a front sway bar disconnect, and pre-wired auxiliary switches for outdoor accessories. It also comes with protective skid plates and red recovery hooks.

The Trailhunter builds upon lower trim levels with 18-inch bronze alloy wheels, Old Man Emu forged monotube shocks with rear remote reservoirs, an ARB modular bed utility bar with removable panels, rock rails, an ARB steel rear bumper, additional high-strength steel underbody protection, a high-mount air intake (snorkel), an integrated bed air compressor, and a 20-inch LED light bar.

At Least The Tacoma Trailhunter Owns The Wild

The 2026 Toyota Trailhunter will carry you and your stuff to ultimate adventure locations off the grid. This overlanding rig has a ground clearance of 11.2 inches, and it is officially rated for water fording up to 35 inches. The pillar intake has a primary function as a dust separator, though it’s not a fully sealed deep-water snorkel.

This mid-size truck has an approach angle of 35.2 degrees, a 24.0-degree breakover angle, and a departure angle of 22.3 degrees. The Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) enhances front suspension articulation and is paired with the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Crawl Control systems.

In standard form, the Trailhunter has a curb weight of 5,360 lbs while the TRD Pro trim weighs in at 5,100 pounds. Also, the Trailhunter is 214.4 inches long and 77.9 inches wide with a 131.9-inch wheelbase. Going for the six-foot bed increases the overall weight to 5,410 pounds and length to 227.4 inches. But the extra foot in bed length makes a massive difference for the amount of gear you can haul.

If you need space for extra gear, the Trailhunter can tow up to 6,000 pounds, and the standard configuration can carry a payload of up to 1,475 pounds. With the six-foot bed, you can carry up to 1,425 pounds. Lower trim levels with less off-roading and overlanding equipment can tow up to 6,500 pounds and carry a payload of up to 1,710 pounds.

Here’s What The Tacoma Trailhunter Doesn’t Have

Unfortunately, you still may need to buy a few accessories to get your 2026 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter ready for overlanding. It just comes with all the equipment you need to carry accessories that make comfort and survival easier. For example, the ARB modular bed rack has high-strength roof mounts, integrated lighting, and a 2,400 AC power supply.

But it doesn’t have a rooftop tent or a modular camper setup. The Trailhunter has a dynamic (while-moving) roof weight rating of 130 pounds. For food storage, the bed can accommodate a 12V compressor fridge. You might want to consider a camp kitchen set along with a hydration jug or hand-pump faucet as well.

A portable power station or auxiliary lithium power bank is beneficial to run the fridge and a lighter overnight without draining the truck battery. They can be charged via the truck’s 12V/AC outlets. Don’t forget about storage boxes for bed organization and keeping your loose gear strapped down. Additional recovery gear is always worth including. Consider bringing soft shackles, a kinetic rope, and traction boards.
