The 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A was built to take on Trans-Am racing, but this example has another claim to fame. It was originally sold by Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago, one of the most famous Mopar dealerships of the muscle car era. Now, this Hemi Orange Challenger is back on Bring a Trailer, bringing its racing heritage and dealership history along for the ride.
Dodge built the Challenger T/A for the 1970 model year to meet homologation requirements for the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am racing series. That meant producing a road-going version of its competition car, and the result was one of the more distinctive muscle cars of the era. Approximately 2,400 examples were built, making the T/A a relatively rare sight today.
Under the hood sits a 340-cubic-inch V8 with three two-barrel carburetors, the setup that earned it the Six Pack name. The engine was factory-rated at 290 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque. Dodge also gave the T/A a fiberglass hood with a functional scoop, a rear spoiler, black graphics, and side-exit exhaust pipes. It looked ready for the track even when parked outside the grocery store.
This particular car left the factory in Hemi Orange, paint code EV2, paired with a black vinyl roof and black interior. The seller notes that it was repainted under previous ownership, so its current finish isn’t original. Still, Hemi Orange suits the Challenger’s shape, and it’s hard to imagine a more fitting color for a classic Mopar.
Then there’s the Grand Spaulding Dodge connection. Run by Norman Kraus, better known as Mr. Norm, the Chicago dealership became a destination for buyers looking for high-performance Mopars during the muscle car boom. This Challenger was purchased there on July 28, 1970, for $4,554.75. Its surviving documentation includes the original dealer shipping paperwork, broadcast sheet, and owner’s manual.
That history gives the car an extra layer of appeal. The Challenger T/A is already a homologation special with a limited production run, but knowing it came from Mr. Norm’s famous dealership makes this example even more interesting to Mopar enthusiasts. The car previously appeared on Bring a Trailer in September 2026, where bidding reached $69,000 without a reported sale.
It’s now back on the auction site with no reserve, so there’s no minimum price the seller must receive for it to sell. Between its Trans-Am roots, EV2 Hemi Orange finish, and Grand Spaulding Dodge origins, this Challenger T/A has plenty going for it. For Mopar fans, the Mr. Norm connection is one seriously appealing bonus.
