Some old cars have stories that are hard to believe, and this 1955 Ford Fairlane looks like it has a few of them. It’s recently resurfaced for sale in Arkansas, and at first glance, you might think it’s just another old Ford in need of some love. Take a closer look, though, and you’ll start noticing things that make this one a whole lot more interesting.

John Mahoney’s Name And This Fairlane’s Drag Racing History

The black paint, hand-painted lettering and racing graphics give this Fairlane plenty of old-school attitude. There’s even a name painted on the car: John Mahoney. That name is worth remembering because a recent estate auction listed what appears to be the same Fairlane as a former drag racer from Mahoney’s collection. The auction description mentioned period racing equipment, Formula Six headers and an Iskenderian cam. It also sold for $3,520 in August 2026, although we’d need to confirm the car’s identity before connecting that sale to the current listing.

A 312 Tri-Power V8 Gives This Ford Some Serious Character

Under the hood, things get even better. The seller lists a 312-cubic-inch Ford Y-block V8 with a Tri-Power setup. In other words, it’s running three carburetors, which is exactly the sort of hardware you’d want to see in an old drag car. There’s a four-speed manual transmission, too. It’s a pretty tasty combination for a 1955 Ford. There’s one catch, though. Ford didn’t offer the 312 Y-block in the 1955 Fairlane. That engine arrived for the 1956 model year, meaning somebody has given this car a few mechanical upgrades over the years.

This Old Ford Still Needs Some Work

The current eBay seller is asking $10,000 for the Fairlane, which is in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Don’t expect to drive it straight home, though. The estate auction described the car as a non-running restoration project, and there’s no confirmation that the engine currently runs. Whoever buys it will have some work ahead before this old Ford sees another trip down the drag strip. Still, we’d much rather see this Fairlane brought back to life than stripped of its old racing equipment. Cars with this kind of history deserve another chance to make some noise.
