The Cybertruck tested by Car and Driver was the most powerful variant: the all-wheel-drive Beast. The model is equipped with three electric motors producing a combined 834 horsepower. Despite its substantial 6,901-pound curb weight, it sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds — 0.7 seconds quicker than the Rivian R1T.

More importantly, the Cybertruck recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.0 seconds at 119 mph, beating the Rivian by 0.9 seconds and arriving at the stripe 9 mph faster. That result makes the Tesla Cybertruck Beast the fastest production pickup truck over the quarter mile. The Beast is the flagship tri-motor variant, delivering 834 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque, and draws energy from a 123 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack with a peak DC fast-charge rate of 250 kW.

The Cybertruck Beat The Rivian R1T To The Quarter Mile

Car and Driver tested the Rivian R1T, and it dethroned the Ram TRX, setting a time of 11.9 seconds at 110 mph to claim the title of fastest pickup truck over the quarter mile — until the Tesla Cybertruck came along.

The R1T recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds and reached 100 mph in 9.0 seconds. On every metric, the Rivian was faster than the Ram TRX. But the Tesla Cybertruck Beast beat them both by a substantial margin.

The Rivian R1T is heavier than the TRX, yet it still outperformed the Ram in braking, stopping from 70 mph in just 177 feet. The Cybertruck posted near-similar braking results.

Rivian is an electric vehicle manufacturer based in Irvine, California. The brand introduced the R1T pure-electric pickup truck, beating the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the Tesla Cybertruck to market.

The model Car and Driver tested was the First Edition Rivian R1T, fitted with the quad-motor drivetrain — a permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor at each wheel. Combined output stands at 835 hp, and as a pure-electric truck, all 908 lb-ft of torque arrives instantly, which is central to its rapid quarter-mile performance. The R1T draws power from a substantial 128.9 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack.

In testing conducted by Car and Driver, the Ram 1500 TRX recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds and covered the standing quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 110 mph. To this day, the Ram 1500 TRX remains the fastest factory gas-powered performance pickup truck over the quarter mile.

However, the TRX’s braking performance fell short of both the Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T. It required 189 feet to stop from 70 mph — a noticeably longer distance than either of its electric rivals.

The Ram 1500 TRX is powered by a high-performance 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8, commonly known as the Hellcat engine. Paired with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, this Hellcat-derived engine delivers 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Ram claims the TRX can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and cross the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. Car and Driver’s real-world testing showed the truck was substantially quicker on both counts. The TRX is electronically limited to a top speed of 118 mph.

Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX: The Most Powerful Pickup Truck

The Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX claimed the title of the world’s most powerful pickup truck, based on the Ram 1500 TRX with a suite of aftermarket performance upgrades. Production was limited to 200 units.

Hennessey fitted a high-flow 2.65-liter supercharger, upgraded fuel injectors, a high-flow induction system, and a performance-tuned ECU calibration. The result was an output of 1,012 hp and 969 lb-ft of torque — up from the standard TRX’s 702 hp — making it the most powerful gas-powered pickup truck available.

Hennessey claimed the Mammoth 1000 TRX could reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. That is quicker than the standard Ram TRX and the Rivian R1T, but still not as fast as the Tesla Cybertruck Beast. The same hierarchy holds over the quarter mile.

The performance upgrades propel the Mammoth 1000 through the quarter mile in 11.4 seconds at 120 mph. That trap speed edges out both the Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T, even if the elapsed time does not.
