Suzuki Holds Opening Ceremony of Third Biogas Plant in India

Suzuki Motor Corporation (hereinafter ‘Suzuki’) and Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited (hereinafter ‘SRDI’), a 100%-owned subsidiary of Suzuki in India, held the opening ceremony of the BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT in Vinchhivadi, Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on 26 August 2026.

This is Suzuki’s third biogas plant following the Agthala plant which opened in December 2025 and the Bhukhala plant, which opened in January 2026. The plant will produce and sell biogas for CNG vehicles (CBG) and organic fertilizer.

In September 2023, Suzuki signed an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (hereinafter ‘NDDB’) and Banas Dairy (headquartered in Gujarat) through SRDI, and has agreed to the construction of 9 biogas plants, including the active 2 plants (Agthala and Bhukhala) and the Vinchhivadi plant, which held its opening ceremony today.

The opening ceremony of BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT, held on 26 August was attended by Mr. Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy and Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Mr. Jitubhai Vaghani, Honorable Cabinet Minister, Government of Gujarat, Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman and Managing Director of NDDB, Mr. Ashok bhai Chaudhary, Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki, Hisashi Takeuchi, Executive Vice President of Suzuki (Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki India Limited), and Kenichiro Toyofuku, Managing Officer of Suzuki (Director of SRDI).

Biogas, a carbon-neutral fuel, can be used in CNG vehicles which account for about 20% of the passenger car market in India, thereby contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the operation of biogas plants is expected to contribute to improved energy self-sufficiency, the creation of new jobs, and increased rural income through the utilization of biomass resources, including cattle dung.

‘Suzuki’s third biogas plant has commenced operations today. This project is part of the initiatives under the Japan-India Cooperative Biogas for Growth (CBG) Initiative, which was agreed upon by the Governments of Japan and India in July 2026. Suzuki will continue to steadily promote its biogas business in line with its plans and work together with local communities to contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality and the economic development of rural areas.’
