Dubai Police has officially launched the second generation of its Ghiath smart patrol vehicle program, this time built around BYD’s plug-in hybrid DENZA B8. The announcement came alongside the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dubai Police and Al-Futtaim, the exclusive UAE distributor for BYD, cementing a formal partnership to develop, deploy, and expand the next wave of smart patrol hardware.
The launch ceremony drew senior leadership from both sides — including Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD Company — signaling that this is more than a fleet refresh. Dubai Police is positioning the second-gen Ghiath as a purpose-built law enforcement platform that combines AI-driven security systems with a hybrid powertrain designed to cut emissions without compromising operational performance.
The vehicle at the center of the program is the DENZA B8, a plug-in hybrid developed under BYD’s premium DENZA sub-brand. Dubai Police says the PHEV configuration was chosen to balance high performance with environmental sustainability — two priorities the force has explicitly tied together in its fleet strategy.
The DENZA B8’s hybrid architecture means officers get electric-range efficiency for routine patrol work and combustion-engine reserves when the situation demands it. This car might not be the standard supercar we see the Dubai Police use sometimes, but it does have some pretty decent specs. The BYD DENZA B8 is powered by the brand’s advanced DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors to produce up to 603 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of combined torque. The rugged body-on-frame SUV can sprint from 0-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds while still delivering a claimed driving range of over 646 miles.
Ghiath — which translates roughly to ‘rescuer’ in Arabic — is described by Dubai Police as one of its flagship smart security vehicle initiatives. The program is built around integrating advanced technologies, smart systems, and artificial intelligence directly into the patrol vehicle itself, rather than treating the car as a simple transport tool.
The first generation established that framework. The second generation, now backed by the BYD partnership and the newly signed MOU, is intended to push that further — adding more advanced smart vehicle capabilities and extending the program’s reach across Dubai Police’s operational fleet.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed at the launch event formalizes the relationship between Dubai Police and Al-Futtaim. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei signed on behalf of Dubai Police; Yousuf AlRaeesi, Director of Government Affairs at Al-Futtaim, signed for the company.
AlRaeesi noted that the collaboration supports the safe and secure environment the UAE is known for internationally, while also reinforcing the country’s global leadership positioning. For Al-Futtaim, the deal extends an existing relationship with Dubai Police into new vehicle territory — and ties the distributor directly to one of the region’s most high-profile fleet programs.
Dubai Police has made a habit of running some of the world’s most recognizable patrol vehicles, and the Ghiath program takes that in a different direction — less about marquee supercar optics, more about building genuinely capable, tech-forward hardware for everyday policing. A PHEV platform from BYD’s premium DENZA line is an interesting choice for that mission, and how the second-gen Ghiath performs in the field will be worth watching.
