Some motorcycles are worth a fortune because of their rarity, performance, or history. Others are priceless for entirely different reasons. For Sean from the popular SRK Cycles YouTube channel, a tiny vintage Garelli moped falls into the second category. And after searching for nearly a decade, he finally found one just 30 minutes from his home.

The best part? It cost him just $700, and the seller apparently had no idea how much the little Italian machine meant to him. But what started as an exciting motorcycle discovery quickly turned into something much bigger.

Sean’s love affair with motorcycles began when he was just 15 years old. After spending an entire week pulling poison ivy for his youth pastor, he was offered a choice between cash and an old Garelli moped that hadn’t run in years. Naturally, he chose the motorcycle.

With help from his brother, Sean eventually got the little two-stroke running. That experience sparked an obsession that ultimately led to SRK Cycles, a successful motorcycle business and YouTube channel.

Fast-forward roughly two decades, and Sean finally tracked down another Garelli. Even better, this example was titled, running, and ready to ride.

The machine itself was wonderfully basic. There was no battery, a tiny carburetor, and a simple two-stroke engine. During his test ride, Sean managed to hit around 30 mph downhill, although climbing hills was an entirely different story. At one point, the little moped struggled so badly that he had to get off and push.

He Finally Found His Dream Motorcycle, Then Gave It Away

You might expect Sean to restore the Garelli and proudly add it to his collection. Instead, he had something completely different in mind.

He visited Alexander, a 15-year-old subscriber who shared his passion for vintage bicycles and was even building his own motorized bicycle using a 66cc engine kit.

After checking out Alexander’s collection, Sean introduced him to the Garelli and let him experience the little machine. Then came the surprise.

“It’s yours,” Sean told the teenager.

Alexander could hardly believe it. Sean explained that someone had given him a similar motorcycle when he was 15, and now he wanted to pass that opportunity along.

For $700, Sean didn’t just rediscover the motorcycle that started his obsession. He potentially helped create the next generation of motorcycle enthusiast. And that’s a pretty incredible return on investment.
