BMW Motorrad has unveiled its latest entry-level naked motorcycle, the 2027 BMW F 450 R, which shares its engine with the F 450 GS. This marks BMW’s second push into the beginner roadster segment after the G 310 R, this time with more performance and higher-spec components. Here’s what you need to know about BMW’s latest lightweight naked sportbike competitor..

BMW’s Latest Naked Bike Is The Lightweight F 450 R

BMW Motorrad

The 2027 BMW F 450 R is developed, as the German firm comically puts it, for maximum riding pleasure. Powered by a 48 horsepower parallel-twin engine and chassis geometry tuned for road riding, this new naked bike is said to deliver everything that defines a true BMW roadster. The bike also borrows visual cues from the high-performance S 1000 R liter-class naked.

Newly-Developed 48-hp Parallel-Twin Engine

BMW Motorrad

The F 450 R is powered by the newly developed 420cc parallel-twin engine with a 135-degree crankpin offset, first introduced on the F 450 GS. With 48 hp at 8,750 and 32 lb-ft. of torque at 6,750 rpm, the engine is tuned for road riding and is said to produce 80 percent of its torque right from 3,000 rpm for quicker acceleration and stronger low-end.

BMW Motorrad

The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission with optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). This centrifugal clutch removes the need to manually operate the clutch lever, though the lever is retained if the riders want to operate the clutch themselves.. BMW also offers a bidirectional quickshifter on all but the base model, and the shift pattern can be easily reversed, too. BMW claims a fuel economy of 62 mpg, allowing a range of up to 217 miles from the 3.7-gallon fuel tank.

Chassis Setup Tuned For Enhanced Agility

BMW Motorrad

The F 450 R uses an all-new tubular steel frame and an aluminum swingarm, with a short 55.31-inch wheelbase and a steep 23.4-degree rake to improve agility. Suspension comes from a 43mm KYB upside-down fork and a rear KYB monoshock with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping. Optional Sport Suspension adds compression and rebound damping adjustment to the front fork.

BMW Motorrad

Braking is handled by a single Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper gripping a 310mm front disc and a floating ByBre single-piston rear caliper gripping a 240mm rear disc. The F 450 R rides on 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with tubeless tires.

Upright Ergonomics For Comfortable Road Setup

BMW Motorrad

BMW’s roadster has an upright riding position suited to road riding. BMW Motorrad says the tapered aluminum handlebars are set high and close to the rider, while the tank and side panels are shaped for better support and knee grip. The standard two-piece seat is 31.10 inches high for easy reach to the ground, and BMW will also offer a 0.78-inch-higher sport seat and a 0.59-inch-lower seat for shorter riders. BMW says the foot levers and side stand are forged from aluminum.

Large TFT Display And Lean-Sensitive Rider Aids

BMW Motorrad

The tech package includes a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, a full LED light setup with dynamic brake light, heated grips, USB-C port, and three standard riding modes: Rain, Road, and Dynamic. Rider aids include lean-sensitive ABS and traction control, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and engine drag torque control (MSR).

2027 BMW F 450 R: Pricing, Availability, And Variants

BMW Motorrad

BMW will offer the F 450 R in four variants, starting with the base in Cosmic Black colorway. Also in Cosmic Black is the Exclusive, which adds Shift Assistant Pro and adjustable Sport suspension. The higher-spec M Sport is finished in Snaefell White with an M Motorsport livery, white frame and rim stickers, and features Riding Modes Prom, which includes configurable Dynamic Pro mode. The M Sport can be optioned with the Innovation Package that adds Easy Ride Clutch (ERC).

BMW has not revealed pricing yet. BMW Motorrad USA has confirmed that there are currently no plans to bring this new naked sportbike to the United States, though representatives have stated that it might be introduced here later.
