INTERIOR Damaged switches and controls are very expensive to replace. Especially on the GTC, check the carpets and footwells for damp, possibly caused by blocked roof drains. The passenger footwell is home to expensive modules, which don’t like water.

ALSO WORTH KNOWING

If you think paying for a GT, its upkeep and fuel are the end of the story, think again. There’s road tax as well: £760 in the case of the V8 and £790 for the W12 and W12 FlexFuel, which drinks E85 bioethanol if you can find any. But cars registered from March 2017 fall under the current rules so attract a charge of just £200 (their luxury car tax component having long since expired).

HOW MUCH TO SPEND

£22,000-£29,999 Good choice of early 6.0 and 4.0 GTs, many with fewer than 50,000 miles and with official service histories.

£30,000-£34,999 More of the same but also a few W12 Speed-spec cars.

£35,000-£44,999 Growing numbers of fully optioned cars and V8 S models at this money. Also, more GTCs plus a few post-2015 facelift cars.

£45,000-£59,999 This is the sweet spot, with some lovely post-facelift cars showing low mileages.

£60,000-£75,000 The best cars in the best condition and mostly late-plate.
