America has a rich automotive history. The Ford Model T in 1908 made cars affordable, and this kicked off an era of motorization for the middle class. Since then, cars have evolved from mere tools to go from A to B, but also as objects of desire. American automotive icons were created either to compete with the world’s best or to be valued for their dependability and affordability.
For today’s article, how about an American model that blends value with being world-class and highly desirable? This is a vehicle that I think represents America extremely well. Sure, a Ford F-150 may represent America well, but not every market worldwide appreciates its girth, and only certain markets value the appeal of pickups.
The American vehicle in today’s article, however, is America at its best foot forward. Though it is not sold globally, its desirability and appeal are far-reaching. If a vehicle appears in numerous video games, you know that it is a vehicle that is aspired to by fans and enthusiasts worldwide. This vehicle represents America at its most desirable and world-class.
The American automotive industry has some interesting facts and numbers. For instance, an American automaker may pride itself on its domestically produced vehicles, but did you know that not all American cars are created equal? Did you also know that an American car happens to be one of the world’s best-selling vehicles?
American Cars That Are The Most And Least American

It doesn’t mean that if a vehicle is from an American automaker, it is also the model that is the most American. You see, cars are made up of multiple parts, and some of those parts aren’t manufactured in the United States. This is why Kogod created the Made in America Auto Index, in which it has determined that the Tesla Model 3 (non-Performance) is the most American car of them all. As much as 75 percent of the vehicle’s parts are sourced from North America (the United States and Canada). Following in second place is the Model 3 Performance and the Model Y lineup, with 70 percent, while in third is the Cybertruck with 65 percent North American parts content.
But what about the American car with the least American parts content? That honor goes to the Chevrolet Trax, which is in 80th place in the Made in America Auto Index. The Trax is manufactured in South Korea, and despite being a vehicle from an American automaker, it only has two percent North American parts content. Yes, a lot of Japanese, Korean, and German models are more American than this Chevrolet Trax.
The World’s Best-Selling Car In 2025 Is American

We know that America has so much influence on the global automotive stage, but for the longest time, the Toyota Corolla was the world’s best-selling car until the RAV4 took the title in 2022. Since 2023, however, an American electric vehicle (EV) has become the world’s best-selling vehicle, and this is an honor that has been maintained in 2025. I’m talking about the Tesla Model Y, which, unsurprisingly, also gave it the world’s best-selling EV title.
The Tesla Model Y represents the world’s gradual acceptance of EVs. Though the removal of America’s federal EV tax credit contributed to the reduced global sales of the Model Y, it wasn’t enough to knock it out of the top spot in global sales. The Model Y, as controversial as the brand’s CEO may be, is simply such a good EV for numerous families and consumers worldwide.

When you think of America, you immediately picture cars with big engines and an abundance of personality. Value for money is also a consideration, and though the car for this article isn’t necessarily cheap, the value it offers is high relative to what it’s often compared to. Say hello to the Chevrolet Corvette, a vehicle that shows how Americans can reinvent themselves to produce one of the best and most desirable sports cars available.

Reinvented To Be World Class
2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand SportChevrolet
The Chevrolet Corvette was defined by three key ingredients: rear-wheel drive (RWD), front-engined, and with great handling. It also mostly had a V-8, as only the first-generation model got an inline-six as an entry-level option. These ingredients were designed to challenge the agile and lightweight European sports cars, but in a manner that was distinctly American. The latter was achieved by using a big, cross-plane crank V-8, which also gave the Corvette a muscle car-like soundtrack despite being classed as a sports car.
But in 2020, with the debut of the eighth-generation C8 model, the Corvette recipe would be completely flipped. Though hallmarks like the RWD layout and cross-plane crank V-8 remained, the engine would now be positioned behind the driver, giving the Corvette a rear mid-engine layout. The reinvention was so drastic that it wouldn’t be surprising if the Corvette had undergone a name change altogether.
Once-In-A-Lifetime Shift Drives Success

While the Corvette C8’s dramatic shift was welcomed by many, some purists were put off by the tectonic shift to a mid-engine layout. While the C8’s mid-engine layout may have turned off Corvette purists, it also attracted enthusiasts who wanted the finesse and proportions of a European exotic but without the exotic price tag. The result is that the C8 is outselling prior Corvette generations.
In the United States, 159,864 units of the C8 Corvette have been sold, which means that 31,973 units on average were sold annually. That’s 20 percent higher than what the C7 achieved, and in Q1 2025, it held 56 percent of the segment, outselling the Porsche 911 and 718. More than 200,000 C8 Corvettes have already been built as of 2025, significantly outpacing the 178,000 C7s built during its entire lifetime. Finally, the C8 is also the first globally sold Corvette in both right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) configurations. Clearly, with a mid-engine layout, the Corvette was finally an appealing sports car to European and Asian fans.
The Chevrolet EV That’s Cheaper And More Powerful Than A Corvette
With the rise of EVs, the Corvette is not quite as dominant as it once was. Heck, this all-electric SUV family hauler can almost keep up.
The Most Diverse Corvette Ever

As the Chevrolet Corvette needs to adapt to ever-changing rules and regulations, the C8 is also the most diverse in terms of powertrain choices. Whether electrified, equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD), or both, the C8 Corvette is now designed to appeal to a global audience.
The Cross-Plane Crank Versions
In my opinion, the C8 Corvette range can be split into two distinct families. For those who want the traditional muscle car V-8 engine that emits a distinct rumble and roar, the cross-plane V-8 is the choice. This V-8 engine type is fitted to the base Stingray, the hybrid E-Ray, as well as the new Grand Sport and hybrid Grand Sport X. The Stingray uses the LT2 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 490 horsepower, which, when fitted with the optional Z51 package — adding a third radiator and an NPP exhaust that contributes five horsepower — gives the Corvette Stingray a 2.8-second 0-60 mph time. Impressive figures for even the entry-level Stingray — just imagine how much performance the Corvette offers in higher trims.
New for the 2027 model year are the Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X, the latter of which will replace the hybrid E-Ray. The Grand Sport models use a newly developed LS6 6.7-liter cross-plane crank V-8 that produces 535 horsepower or a whopping 721 horsepower through electric motors driving the front wheels. The Grand Sport models feature the wider body of the Z06, along with other tweaks that are built upon the soon-to-be-discontinued E-Ray. Interestingly, when driven in EV mode, the hybrid C8 Corvettes become front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles.
The Flat-Plane Crank Versions

For those who want the Corvette in its true supercar-slaying form that emulates a European exotic, the flat-plane crank versions are the answer. The range kicks off with the Corvette Z06, which was a huge success immediately upon introduction. The LT6 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V-8 is a clean-sheet design that is mostly based on the C8.R’s race engine. This was the version you’d go to if you wanted a more affordable but just as theatrical alternative to the Porsche 911 GT3, because its high-revving V-8 that sang up to 8,600 rpm was something to behold. It also costs half as much as a 911 GT3, which raises the question: Is the Z06 just half as good as the 911 GT3? We don’t think so.
Of course, the Corvette story wouldn’t be complete without discussing the ZR1. This is the Corvette at its most extreme, because its LT7 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V-8 produces 1,064 horsepower, making it the most powerful V-8 Chevrolet has ever made. It has a 0-60 mph time of just 2.3 seconds when equipped with the ZTK package, along with a top speed of 233 mph. For an even more dramatic performance that pushes the Corvette to hypercar territory, the ZR1X adds the front electric motors from the E-Ray and Grand Sport X to deliver a combined output of 1,250 horsepower. Its 0–60 mph time is under two seconds, a quarter mile of less than nine seconds, and up to 1.0 g of lateral and longitudinal forces due to how grippy and capable the chassis is.
