The Kia Niro has spent a decade quietly doing something most crossovers can’t: delivering real hybrid efficiency without asking buyers to compromise on space, price, or practicality. For 2027, Kia isn’t reinventing that formula — it’s sharpening it.

The refreshed Niro arrives with redesigned front and rear fascias wearing Kia’s Star Map lighting signatures, a reworked cabin built around a panoramic curved display, and a longer list of driver assistance tech that now includes Highway Driving Assist 2 and an expanded Forward Collision Avoidance system. The lineup goes hybrid-only and picks up a new S trim, slotting between the LX and EX. Pricing starts at $29,890 before the $1,495 destination charge, topping out at $38,990 for the SX Touring.

The centerpiece of the 2027 Niro’s cabin is a new panoramic curved display that sweeps across the dash. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is standard on every trim, paired with either a 4-inch digital cluster or an available 12.3-inch fully digital unit.

Kia also fitted a new two-tone steering wheel, which does more work than it sounds like it should. Combined with the reworked dash architecture, it lends the Niro’s cabin a more open, airy feel — a welcome upgrade in a segment where interiors often feel like an afterthought.

Running the show is Kia’s next-generation Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), available on higher trims. It adds Quick Controls for frequently used functions and, more importantly, over-the-air update capability.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the entire lineup — LX included. That’s an increasingly common move, but still not a given at under $30,000.

Available Entertainment and Data Services bring Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube to certain trims, alongside display themes built around Disney’s biggest brands rolling out through 2026. All 30 NBA teams are also available as themes through the Kia Connect Store, which is either a nice touch or a slippery slope depending on how you feel about your dashboard repping the Knicks.

The available Kia AI Assistant responds to “Hey, Kia” and handles climate, audio, and other vehicle functions by voice. It’s the kind of feature that lives or dies on execution, but the intent is clear: fewer taps, more eyes on the road.

Space remains the Niro’s quiet strength. Front occupants get 40.5 inches of headroom, 41.5 inches of legroom, and 56.3 inches of shoulder room, while rear passengers make do with 39.6, 39.8, and 55.4 inches respectively — solid numbers for a vehicle that’s just 174.0 inches long. Total passenger volume comes in at 105.1 cubic feet.

Cargo is where the Niro punches above its footprint. Behind the second row, there’s 21.9 cubic feet (619 liters) of luggage space, and folding the rear seats opens that up to 61.4 cubic feet (1,740 liters). That’s enough to shame a fair number of larger crossovers, and it’s the reason the Niro has always been an easier sell than its subcompact dimensions suggest.

The 2027 Niro’s refresh is anchored by a redesigned front fascia built around Kia’s Star Map lighting signature. The daytime running light graphics play horizontal and vertical lines against each other, and the result is a face that reads wider and more planted than the outgoing car’s.

Revised bumper and grille treatments clean up the rest of the front end. It’s a more sophisticated look overall, in line with Kia’s “Opposites United” design language, without abandoning the slightly quirky character that made the Niro recognizable in the first place.
