Quotes

Will Power (#26 Andretti Global Honda) finished third: ‘It was a great day for us and definitely a result we needed. The strategy was really good, and there were some great calls on the stand. We had strong restarts as well. That last sequence was very good and moved us into the top four, and on the final restart, I was able to get up to P3. I’m really proud of the effort from the entire TWG AI Honda crew. The Honda power was strong all day, and this is a well-deserved result for everyone involved.’

Kyffin Simpson (#8 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) finished fourth: ‘Great day today. We were so close to getting that podium there at the end. Just barely missed out. I’m so grateful to the Chip Ganassi Racing team and to Honda. I had the fuel mileage today to make it to the pits after the yellow came out at a bad time. That kept us on the lead lap and in the hunt, and I’m super grateful for that. Now we move on to Mid-Ohio!’

Alex Palou (#10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) finished fifth: ‘It was a tough race for us. I made a huge mistake with the pit lane. We entered at the right speed, it was just an issue pressing the button. I feel so bad for my #10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda team. That said, we were super lucky to get the full course yellow when we had the drive through. It could have been a better day, but I’m super happy it wasn’t a disaster!’

David Salters (President, HRC US): ‘Racing is sport and sport has its highs and lows. We experienced both this weekend. Pole position and four cars in the Firestone Fast Six showed the hard work of our marvelous drivers and teams and our HRC associates yet again. In the race we were very competitive and, up to the very end of the race, leading and in a great position. But then we failed with just three laps to go whilst leading. The racer in me would always rather fail, which happens unfortunately, whilst leading, but I am extremely sorry to Marcus and the valiant MSR team, just heartbreaking and we are extremely sorry for distress caused to Marcus and the team. We will investigate and find out what has happened. We push things to the limit, so we are always managing risk with very highly stressed components. We will find out what went wrong, learn and come back fighting. We win together and we lose together.’
