Chasing value is a perfectly natural thing. This inevitably applies to every purchase in life, including your favorite motorcycles, such as a Harley-Davidson cruiser. Sure, we all call these American V-twins a passion purchase, but not all of us have endless money to dump on bikes every other year. We buy them to keep them for a few years, so there is the obvious need to get the best bang-for-the-buck. If that’s what you’re looking for in your Harley-Davidson Softail, you’re in the right place. We’re about to talk about the most VFM Softail you can buy today, and the bike in context might surprise you.

The Average Price Of Harley-Davidson Softails Is Lower Than Ever

The Softail range has been an integral lineup for Harley-Davidson. This has birthed some of the most iconic cruiser bikes in the world, garnered hundreds of thousands of sales, and brought millions of dollars in profit for the bikemaker. A lot of the credit here goes to the brand’s aggressive strategies to keep the lineup up-to-date with regular refreshes, be it in terms of new features, engines, or underpinnings.

The latest overhaul came as recently as last year, when the entire lineup gained a new standard set of features, along with a bigger staple engine. The bigger surprise came afterwards, though. Doing what no one thought it would, Harley started dropping the MSRPs of its popular Softails. As a result, the average price of a Softail today is surprisingly attainable.

The Street Bob kicks things off at just $14,999, while saddlebag-equipped models like the Heritage Classic can be had for $19,999. Harley also dropped the prices of the Breakout, despite it being one of the fancy options. Between all this, though, there’s one Softail that received not one but two price cuts in the past year. Add to that the fact that it brings you the most powerful non-CVO Milwaukee-Eight engine, and this becomes an easy pick as the most VFM Softail today.

The Low Rider S Is The Most Value-For-Money Harley-Davidson Softail Today

We’re talking about the Low Rider S. The power cruiser used to sell for $20,499 upon its debut in early 2025. Then it received its first price cut, dropping the MSRP down to $19,999. While that was already excellent value, Harley further reduced the starting price to $18,999 a couple of months later. Look at the previous pricing of the Low Rider S, and you’ll realize this base price makes a laughing stock of inflation trends by being in the ballpark of the 2023 model’s MSRP.

As for value, the Low Rider S beats its Softail siblings in a few ways. Chief among these is its High Output powerhouse that means you’re getting the most powerful air-cooled cruiser by Harley-Davidson under $19,000. In comparison, this price usually gets you the least powerful Classic trim of the Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine. Meanwhile, more pricey bikes like the Breakout and Fat Boy get the ‘Custom’ trim with around 10 horsepower less.

Besides this, the low MSRP also means more room for customization. So if you need a pillion saddle, rear footpegs, and saddlebags, all that will cost you roughly $1,600 extra. That would take the base price to $20,599, which is still ~$1,400 less than the two-up version of the less powerful Heritage Classic. Finally, you’re getting more premium dual disc brakes and USD forks on the Low Rider S as standard. Thus, this is the most VFM Softail in our books.

A Deep Dive Into The 2026 Low Rider S

Value might be one of its USPs, but the latest Low Rider S is one of the most impressive Softails by the Motor Company in a long time. There’s a lot that contributes to it, all of which we’re going to talk about below. Oh, and it’s not all hunky dory. There are some misses, too, which we’d expect on a cruiser of this caliber.

Boasts Class-Leading V-twin Performance

Performance is where we start. The Low Rider S is not only Harley’s most powerful Softail, but it’s also the most powerful air-cooled American cruiser on sale today. Full credit goes to the Milwaukee-Eight 117 High Output powerhouse, featuring forward-facing Heavy Breather intake, a performance-tuned 2-into-1 exhaust, high-performance SE8-511 camshaft, and a raised redline over the regular engine.

That boosts the output to 114 horsepower and 128 pound-feet, kicking in at 5,000 RPM and 4,000 RPM, respectively. Even with that power, Harley has somehow managed to claim 47 miles to the gallon. That is similar to its less powerful siblings. As for performance, you can expect to breach the 124mph mark with ease in the sixth gear.

The Underpinnings Are Equally Modern

Like the powerful engine, the Low Rider S sets itself apart from the Softail lineup with modern underpinnings. While the rest of the range has telescopic forks, you get 43 mm USD forks on the Low Rider. This is topped with a monoshock outback with preload adjustability. Sweetening the deal are dual disc brakes up top–again a rarity in Harley’s cruiser lineup. Cast alloy 19/16-inch wheels round things off. You do still get the double-cradle Softail chassis here, though.

To touch on the dimensions, the Low Rider S tips the scales at 670 pounds fully fueled. That, along with its 27-inch seat height, should make it relatively easy to live with, compared to heavier Softails. The 5.7-inch ground clearance is higher than its peers, too. This in turn enables a cornering clearance of 31.3 degrees on both sides.

A Six-Axis IMU Promises Sports Bike-Like Electronic Aids

The Low Rider didn’t even have standard ABS a couple of years ago. Today, there’s a whole army of electronic aids at your helm. A six-axis IMU and ride-by-wire work together to enable cornering traction control, cornering ABS, and cornering drag-torque control. Meanwhile, ride modes tweak the throttle response and cruise control ensures long-haul rides are effortless. Topping these are nitty-gritty touches like all-LED lights, TPMS, USB port, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The latter is a bummer for such a premium bike.

Lastly, Harley offers the Low Rider S in a healthy dose of colors. They all cost extra over the $18,999 base price, though. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Dark Billiard Gray
  • Vivid Black (+ $300)
  • White Onyx Pearl (+ $650)
  • Olive Steel Metallic (+ $650)

Black ($19,999)
