A tuned BMW M4 sounds like a pretty serious opponent at the drag strip. But when a modified Toyota GR Supra lined up against one, things went badly for the BMW, leaving the Toyota to steal the show with an 8.68-second quarter-mile pass. The two cars couldn’t look much more different.
The Supra wears a white finish, a black roof, an aerodynamic body kit, and a drag-racing parachute at the rear. It’s also missing a headlight, giving it the sort of appearance you’d expect from a car built to chase quarter-mile times rather than win a beauty contest. The BMW M4, meanwhile, sports satin-black paint with red accents. It looks more understated, but this G82-generation coupe has also been modified. Unfortunately, the exact power figures and modifications for either car haven’t been confirmed.
Both cars line up at the start, ready to launch. Things don’t go according to plan for the BMW, though. Its front wheels appear to remain locked initially, and when the car finally attempts to accelerate, it struggles to get going. The M4 eventually abandons the run and reportedly enters limp mode halfway down the track. That’s a miserable outcome for a car that showed up to race, not audition for a trip to the repair shop. The Supra has no such problem. It launches cleanly and charges down the strip, recording an 8.68-second quarter-mile pass at more than 155 mph.
That’s seriously quick. An elapsed time in the eight-second range puts this modified Toyota in genuine drag-racing territory. It’s also worth keeping the result in perspective. The BMW’s apparent mechanical trouble makes this an imperfect comparison. The race doesn’t prove that the Supra is inherently quicker than a tuned M4, and a clean run from both cars would make for a much better showdown. Still, the Supra’s performance deserves attention on its own. It managed an impressive quarter-mile pass while its rival was stuck in limp mode. The BMW driver might want another shot at the Toyota, preferably with a car that makes it to the finish line.
For context, a stock GR Supra 3.0 has been tested through the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 113 mph. This one is roughly 3.6 seconds quicker and traps more than 40 mph faster. It also comfortably outruns a factory M4. A stock M4 Competition xDrive has been clocked at 11 seconds flat at 125 mph, more than two seconds behind this Supra’s pass. There’s an awkward twist for BMW, too. Toyota ended GR Supra production in March 2026, and no successor has been confirmed. The G82 M4, meanwhile, is still being built. So a car that’s already out of production just made one that’s still on sale look silly.
