The Lamborghini Diablo arrived when supercars were loud, intimidating, and perfectly happy to punish careless drivers. It demanded respect, rewarded commitment, and looked dangerous even when parked. That personality helped make it a bedroom-wall hero, but it also makes the Diablo a fascinating candidate for reinvention.
Eccentrica believes the original formula can be sharpened without burying it beneath hybrid assistance, oversized screens, and electronic safety blankets. Its newest creation takes a first-series Diablo, rebuilds virtually everything, and then removes the one thing separating its occupants from the sky. The result promises even more noise, drama, and exposure from a machine that was hardly known for being shy in the first place.
The Eccentrica V12 Roadster is the open-air follow-up to the company’s existing V12 coupe. Rather than performing a cosmetic makeover and calling the job complete, the San Marino-based company says it develops more than 3,500 bespoke components for every vehicle.
Eccentrica collaborated with Milan design studio Borromeo De Silva to preserve the unmistakable Diablo silhouette while giving it a wider, more planted stance. The bodywork is reconstructed in carbon fiber, while the original steel space frame receives additional carbon-fiber structural reinforcement to compensate for the missing roof.
Removing that roof required more than reaching for a very expensive saw. Eccentrica conducted a dedicated aerodynamic study to manage airflow around the exposed cabin, ensuring owners can enjoy the V12 without being battered by turbulence every time the speedometer starts getting interesting.
Maurizio Reggiani also helped lead the technical team behind the Roadster. The former Lamborghini chief technical officer played a major role in the development of cars including the Murciélago, Gallardo, Aventador, and Huracán, giving this independent Diablo project some serious factory-level expertise.
Behind the cabin sits a thoroughly re-engineered version of the Diablo’s 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12. It produces 550 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 443 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm, thanks to revised engine management, improved cooling, and optimized airflow.
Those figures may not terrify the latest 1,000-hp hybrid hypercars, but the Eccentrica is chasing involvement rather than internet bragging rights. Its V12 sends power through a close-ratio six-speed gated manual transmission, while hydraulic steering keeps the driver connected to what the front tires are doing.
Eccentrica claims the 3,395-lb Roadster can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and continue to 208 mph. That top speed should make the roofless experience considerably more effective than any salon hair dryer.
Three selectable driving modes alter the Roadster’s personality, while redesigned suspension geometry and custom semi-active dampers attempt to combine old-school feedback with modern control. Brembo brakes with 15-inch front and 13.6-inch rear discs provide the stopping power. Eccentrica says the car can brake from 62 mph to a standstill in 111 feet.
The cabin mixes Connolly leather, Alcantara, exposed carbon fiber, and anodized materials without abandoning the physical controls and mechanical character that make an analogue supercar feel special. Each example will be individually configured with its owner, so finding two identical Roadsters should be nearly impossible.
Eccentrica will build only 19 examples, although the company has not announced pricing. Considering the extensive engineering, custom carbon bodywork, and donor Diablo required, this will almost certainly be a purchase for collectors whose financial advisors have learned to stop asking questions.
The V12 Roadster will make its first public appearance at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 14, 2026. That venue will be packed with newer, faster, and possibly more powerful machinery, but few cars should offer this particular combination of 1990s supercar menace and modern craftsmanship.
Eccentrica has not attempted to make the Diablo polite or sensible. It has made it stiffer, sharper, faster, and more exposed. In a world of increasingly complicated supercars, a naturally aspirated V12 screaming behind an open cabin and a metal gate clicking between shifts sounds wonderfully uncomplicated.
