Classic Recreations is back, and its calling card is a Shelby Mustang with 1,000 horsepower and a carbon-fiber wardrobe. The company is returning to SEMA Show 2026 under Velocity Restorations ownership with the GT500CR Carbon, an officially licensed reimagining of the classic Shelby GT500. Nostalgia does the introductions, but the hardware is having a considerably louder conversation.

Following its debut at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, the Shelby GT500CR Carbon is headed to FuelTech’s booth #24431 at SEMA 2026. It’s Classic Recreations’ first SEMA appearance under Velocity ownership, and neatly decided to show up with a bang.

The GT500CR is officially licensed by Shelby and recorded in the Shelby Worldwide Registry. Classic Recreations says it’s the only builder offering officially licensed 1967-68 Shelby GT500s with carbon-fiber bodies. Beneath the exposed weave and red racing stripes sits a familiar Mustang silhouette with considerably less devotion to time-correct construction.

These aren’t mass-produced Mustangs, either. Classic Recreations operates from a 135,000-square-foot Florida facility and says each build receives more than 2,500 hours of work. Its Shelby range includes steel-bodied cars and three carbon-fiber performance stages, giving buyers several ways to rearrange their retirement plans.

The centerpiece is a Wegner-built Gen 4X Coyote V8 wearing a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. Output stands at 1,000 horsepower, sent rearward through a Suncoast-built 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission and carbon-fiber driveshaft. That’s quite a leap from the big-block Shelby Mustangs of the ’60s.

Keeping that power vaguely civilized is a FuelTech FT700 standalone engine computer, which also manages traction control alongside a Vaporworx fuel controller. That’s a useful combination when your right foot can summon four-digit horsepower and your rear tires would prefer to chill at home.

Detroit Speed supplies the Aluma-Frame front suspension and QuadraLink rear setup, while electronically controlled Nitron shocks handle ride adjustments. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Forgeline Carbon Grudge wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires round out a parts list built for serious entertainment.

The Carbon Fiber Shelby GT500CR Doesn’t Forget Its Muscle Car Roots

The carbon-fiber body keeps the Shelby’s long hood, aggressive nose, and fastback profile, but the dark weave, red stripes, modern wheels, and updated taillights make its intentions obvious. Side-exit exhausts add a suitably antisocial finishing touch, at least for nearby neighbors.

Inside, Scheel-Mann seats share space with a Dakota Digital instrument cluster, Vintage Air air conditioning, and a custom center console. Focal speakers, a Mosconi amplifier, and an Alpine head unit provide entertainment for anyone somehow bored by a supercharged V8.

All in, it’s a compelling argument for the modern Shelby restomod, even if a 10-speed automatic might leave manual-transmission diehards grumbling. Pricing remains a question mark, and 1,000 horsepower guarantees nothing about real-world road manners. Still, this is one dramatic (and awesome) way to announce a comeback.
