Pricing announced for Denza D9 people carrier
Denza has confirmed UK specifications and pricing for the new D9, a seven-seat luxury people carrier that combines a competitive electric range with a cabin designed around business-class passenger comfort.
The D9 becomes another addition to BYD Group’s premium Denza line-up, and is aimed at buyers looking for something more luxurious than a conventional people carrier. Its combination of seven seats and plug-in hybrid power also makes it an unusual proposition in the UK market.
Plug-in hybrid offers 130 miles of electric range
Both versions use Denza’s ‘DM-i AWD’ plug-in hybrid system, combining two electric motors with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The front and rear motors produce 231hp and 61hp respectively, with the petrol engine primarily used as a generator but able to provide additional assistance when required. The D9 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds.
Its unusually large 58.5kWh battery provides up to 130 miles of electric-only range, while Denza quotes a total petrol-and-electric range of 590 miles.
Perhaps more notable is its charging capability. Denza says its ‘FLASH’ Charging technology allows the battery to go from 10% to 70% in five minutes or 10% to 97% in nine minutes, with peak charging power equivalent to 559kW.
Seven seats with a focus on second-row luxury
The D9’s seven-seat cabin is accessed through powered sliding rear doors, while even the entry-level ‘Elegance’ comes with leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats and a 16-inch touchscreen with Google built-in.
Second-row passengers get individual seat-mounted control screens, while a Devialet sound system and a compartment capable of heating or cooling food and drinks are also standard.
The ‘Ultimate’ takes the luxury focus considerably further. Its second-row ‘Zero Gravity’ seats offer 14-way adjustment, 16-point massage functionality and can recline by up to 152 degrees, with individual 13-inch entertainment screens.
It also adds higher-grade Nappa leather and heating and ventilation for all seven seats, along with a head-up display, passenger display and digital rear-view mirror.
Practicality hasn’t been forgotten. The boot holds between 430 and 570 litres with all seven seats being used, depending on their position, while maximum capacity increases to 2,310 litres in four-seat configuration.
Pricing and availability
The Denza D9 is available to order in the UK now. Prices start from £75k for the Elegance, while the more comprehensively equipped ‘Ultimate’ costs £85k.
