Summary

The Nissan Micra is a small electric five-door hatchback which arrived in British showrooms in late 2025.

For the first time, the Nissan Micra is an electric model with no petrol counterpart. Based on the new Renault 5 E-Tech, it was designed at Nissan’s design studio in London.

“In isolation, the Micra is a great little electric hatchback”, comments Electrifying.com’s Vicky Parrott, “But with the Hyundai Inster, Citroen e-C3, Fiat Grande Panda and – of course – the Renault 5 to contend with, the Nissan has got its work cut out.”

Despite being widely praised for its quirky exterior looks, polite road manners and its well-equipped interior, reviewers generally struggle to recommend the Nissan over its identically-priced Renault equivalent. “The Nissan Micra is an electric car with decent range for the price”, argues the Carwow team, “but the Renault 5 does the same thing with more badge appeal.”

As of June 2026, the Nissan Micra holds a New Car Expert Rating of A, with a score of 78%. The Nissan’s excellent collection of review scores is bolstered by affordable predicted running costs.

As of June 2026, the Nissan Micra is yet to undergo Green NCAP emissions testing.

The Green NCAP programme measures exhaust pollution (which is zero for an electric car) and energy efficiency. Electric cars are much more energy-efficient than combustion cars, so the Micra is likely to score very highly in Green NCAP testing if and when it takes place. Check back again soon.

The Nissan Micra is a relatively affordable car to own and run, according to whole-life cost numbers provided exclusively to The Car Expert by our data partner, Clear Vehicle Data.

The car’s electrical efficiency (the EV equivalent of miles per gallon) is excellent. That said, you can find battery-powered hatches of this size that provide a longer battery range. On the insurance front, the Nissan’s premiums are predicted to be on the cheaper side of average.
