• MG remains the UK’s second best-selling hybrid car brand
MG Motor UK has delivered its best-ever August sales performance, registering 4,960 vehicles and securing a market share of 5.26% – its highest monthly market share of 2026 – powering the brand into third place in UK sales rankings for the month.
The latest figures extend an exceptional run for MG, with the brand achieving consecutive record-breaking monthly performances from April through to August. Year-to-date sales have reached 60,904 vehicles – up from 50,817 vehicles sold in the same period of 2025.
The MG HS was a major contributor to August’s success, finishing the month as the UK’s third best-selling car. It is also the sixth best-selling car in the UK year-to-date, underlining the model’s broad appeal to customers seeking a spacious, practical and technologically advanced SUV with multi-powertrain options from ICE to HEV and PHEV.
MG maintains its position as the UK’s second best-selling brand for hybrid cars, supported by the continued success of its advanced Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid technology. The brand’s broad electrified line-up provides customers with an accessible choice of Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and fully electric vehicles across a wide range of models straddling market segments from B to E.
This sales momentum has been further reinforced by recognition from What Car?, with MG receiving three accolades in the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2026:
• MG4 EV Urban: Best Electric Small Car
• MG HS PHEV: Best Hybrid Family SUV
• MGS9 PHEV: Best Hybrid 7-Seat SUV
The awards highlight the breadth and competitiveness of MG’s vehicle range, from the accessible MG4 EV Urban to the family-focused MG HS PHEV and seven-seat MGS9 PHEV.
David Allison, Director of Product and Planning, MG Motor UK, said: ‘The MG brand and product offering continues to go from strength to strength, and we are extremely proud to have achieved a top three ranking for our UK sales performance in August. The demand for our cars is a reflection of the continuing growth of our brand appeal and the breadth of our product line-up. Our multi-powertrain offerings across a broad range of vehicle sectors make the MG portfolio among the strongest on the market today.’
