Most celebrity-backed racing teams arrive with big marketing budgets, endless hype, and promises that they’ll dominate the competition.

ARCH Motorcycle showed up with something much simpler. They came with a handful of passionate people, a brand-new motorcycle, and a willingness to get beaten while figuring everything out.

That’s exactly what makes Hooligans: The ARCH Racing Project such an entertaining watch.

The six-part docuseries follows Keanu Reeves and ARCH co-founder Gard Hollinger as they take their boutique motorcycle company from building handcrafted American V-twins to competing against established manufacturers in MotoAmerica’s Super Hooligan National Championship. It’s an ambitious leap that even Reeves admits isn’t glamorous from his perspective.

When I spoke with Reeves and Hollinger ahead of the series premiere, both were refreshingly honest about where ARCH currently stands.

Despite co-owning one of the most recognizable boutique motorcycle brands in America, Reeves isn’t pretending he’s secretly running race strategy behind the scenes.

“I don’t really do anything that does anything,” Reeves joked. “So I had really a lot of fun cheerleading.”

Hollinger quickly jumped in.

“Cheerleading is important.”

“It is,” Reeves laughed.

That exchange perfectly captures the chemistry between the two founders throughout the series. There’s no manufactured TV drama or inflated egos. Instead, it’s two longtime friends trying to build something ambitious while knowing they’re competing against teams with far more experience.

ARCH Isn’t Pretending To Have An Advantage

If there’s one thing that separates ARCH from many newcomers entering professional racing, it’s honesty.

When asked what advantage a smaller, hungrier team has over its established rivals, Gard Hollinger’s response was immediate.

Keanu Reeves suggested that perhaps passion and determination might make the difference, but Hollinger quickly pointed out that every team on the grid has those qualities too.

Instead, ARCH believes the only way forward is through relentless development, learning from every race, and slowly building experience. It’s a refreshingly grounded approach in a sport where confidence often outweighs realism.

That mindset extends throughout the series. Rather than portraying themselves as giant killers, Reeves and Hollinger embrace the role of underdogs, trying to earn respect one race weekend at a time.

Even when asked about growing competition and rumors of rival manufacturers developing bikes specifically to challenge ARCH, Reeves’ response perfectly summed up the team’s attitude.

Racing Is Already Making Better ARCH Motorcycles

The racing program isn’t simply about chasing podium finishes.

According to Hollinger, the project began years ago with a simple question; if ARCH were to build its own next-generation engine, what should it be?

Working alongside Swiss engineering firm Suter Industries, the company developed an all-new powerplant designed to preserve the character of an American air-cooled V-twin while pushing the brand into new performance territory.

More importantly, everything learned on the racetrack is intended to improve the motorcycles customers can actually buy.

“A huge part of this endeavor is to feed the development of the product that we sell… to transfer what we learn both from a performance perspective but also from a reliability perspective.”

That philosophy could eventually lead to something even more exciting for ARCH enthusiasts. Hollinger revealed the company hopes to offer race bike replicas before introducing lessons learned in competition across the rest of its production lineup.

More Than A Celebrity Docuseries

It would have been easy to make Hooligans another celebrity passion project.

Instead, it feels like a genuine motorsport documentary that simply happens to feature one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Reeves rarely positions himself as the face of the operation. At one point, he jokingly describes his contribution to the team by saying, “I don’t really do anything that does anything,” before adding that he enjoys being the team’s cheerleader. The focus remains firmly on the mechanics, engineers, riders, and everyone working behind the scenes to turn ARCH into a legitimate racing contender.

That’s ultimately what makes Hooligans: The ARCH Racing Project compelling. It’s less about fame and more about ambition, persistence, and the willingness to compete against bigger, better-funded rivals simply for the love of motorcycles.

The timing of Hooligans couldn’t be better, either. While the series follows ARCH Racing’s difficult first season as the team fought to establish itself, the real-life story has already taken a dramatic turn. Just weeks before the show’s debut, ARCH Racing celebrated its biggest achievement yet at The Ridge Motorsports Park, where Corey Alexander put the ARCH 2s-R on pole with a new Super Hooligan lap record before delivering the team’s first MotoAmerica race victory and another podium finish the following day. For viewers, that means the docuseries isn’t just telling the story of an underdog chasing success—it’s documenting the foundation of a team that’s already proving it belongs at the front of the grid.
