Forza Horizon 6 is finally crossing over to PS5 on January 26, 2027, according to reporting from Dealabs and corroborated by The Verge. The date comes eight months after the game launched as an Xbox and PC timed exclusive in May 2026, and after a confusing few weeks where Microsoft’s own studio, Playground Games, insisted a 2026 PlayStation release was still on track before quietly walking that back.

For car culture, the real story isn’t the platform fight. It’s what happens when a game built as a rolling love letter to Japanese car culture, complete with an R33 Skyline GT-R, an S14 Silvia, and a stock AE86, lands in front of millions of PS5 owners who’ve never touched an Xbox and may not know why any of those cars matter yet.

A Delay That Comes With A Disc In The Box

The back-and-forth over the PS5 date got weird before it got clear. The Verge’s Tom Warren said in late August he wasn’t expecting Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in 2026, which Playground Games publicly disputed on its official site in September, telling fans the port was still coming this year. By October 6, the studio posted a vague apology on X acknowledging it hadn’t been communicating well, without confirming a date. Dealabs followed up with its own sourcing and landed on January 26, 2027, with The Verge backing the timeframe independently.

The PS5 version will reportedly get a physical disc release, a detail worth noting given Sony’s broader push toward digital-only distribution. Pricing is expected to match the Xbox version, around $69.99 in the US. Forza Horizon 5 proved this crossover works. It launched on PS5 digital-only in 2025 and became a massive hit, which makes the muddled rollout here even stranger given how big the downstream audience has already shown itself to be.

Why The Roster Is The Real Headline

Forza Horizon’s Japan setting has functioned as an encyclopedia of cars that most Western gamers would otherwise only see in magazines or grainy import forum photos. The R33 Skyline GT-R and S14 Silvia aren’t filler content, they’re cars that defined an entire era of Japanese performance engineering before federalization rules made them nearly impossible to import to the US legally for decades. The AE86, immortalized by drift culture and anime alike, sits in the same garage as rally legends like the Lancia Delta Integrale and the Subaru 555 Legacy.

For PlayStation players who’ve spent years on exclusives with no car culture angle at all, this is a different kind of on-ramp. A teenager who’s never heard of Group B rally or the Japanese sports car boom of the late ’80s and early ’90s can get behind the wheel of the cars that built that history, learn the names, and start asking why they’re special. That’s how a lot of real-world enthusiasm gets started, whether it’s a poster on a wall or a save file on a hard drive.

A Garage That Keeps Growing Before The New Players Even Arrive

New PS5 owners won’t be walking into a static launch-day roster. Forza Horizon 6 has been running as a live-service title since May, and its Series 6 update, live as of early October, added 11 new cars including a 1972 Datsun 240Z Rallye, a 1990 Eunos Cosmo, and a 1968 Holden Monaro GTS 327. The update also introduced a 7-Eleven-themed Car Meet event in the game’s Nangan region, complete with branded props and three unlockable cars: a Mazda Furai, a Toyota MR2 SC, and a Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR.

That means PS5 players arriving in January inherit eight months of seasonal content, Car Pass vehicles, and community-driven updates on day one. It’s a deeper, more developed version of the game than the one Xbox players got at launch, and it sets up a roster that should keep expanding well past the PS5 debut.

The platform fight will fade once the January date is official. What matters more is the doubling of an audience that gets to discover why a Hakosuka taillight or a 555 livery means something, one Forzathon challenge at a time.
