• BYD sells 37,995 units in the first half of 2026, growth of 95% over the same period last year
• June registrations totalled 6,242 vehicles

• BYD remains the biggest seller of plug-in hybrids and EVs combined year-to-date in the UK in 2026

BYD has got off to a strong first half of the year, ending the first two quarters with a total of 37,995 new vehicle registrations.

This allowed BYD to maintain its position as the UK’s leading new-energy vehicle manufacturer (a combination of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles), holding a market share of 8.74% across both powertrain types and representing a 95% increase over the same period in 2025.

In June alone, BYD registered 6,242 units, resulting in a 2.93% UK market share.

Among the range highlights was the SEAL U DM-i. The family SUV featuring Super Hybrid with DM technology remains the most popular model in the BYD range, and the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid. This powertrain type continues to grow in popularity within the brand’s line-up, aided by the launch of both the SEALION 5 DM-i and the ATTO 2 DM-i compact SUV, which starts from just £26,995. The SEAL saloon, newly refreshed for 2026, is the most popular EV in BYD’s UK family.

Commenting on the sales figures, Steve Beattie, Deputy Country Manager for BYD UK, said: ‘It’s been a good first half of the year for BYD, and I’d like to thank all of the retailers for helping us get to where we are today. We’re going into the second half determined to do even better; not only will we have even more retailer sites opening, but we’ll soon have three new cars too, which I’m so excited about bringing to market: the DOLPHIN G supermini, the Ti 7 seven-seat SUV and the SHARK pick-up – all using Super Hybrid with DM technology.’
