Honda is wiping all evidence of battery electric vehicles from its lineup, with its only all-electric model ceasing production after the 2026 model year. Earlier this year, Honda announced it would be scaling back its EV efforts, effectively putting the Honda 0 Series pair, as well as the Acura RSX, on ice. Not long after that, the joint venture with Sony, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), announced it would also sideline production on the ultra-modern Afeela 1 electric sedan and SUV models. Now, it’s wrapping up the EV push with the joint GM venture exiting stage left.

The Prologue Actually Became The Epilogue

The Honda Prologue is a joint project between Honda and General Motors, built on the Ultium battery platform alongside the Chevrolet Blazer EV. It stands as Honda’s only production BEV, which already puts it on thin ice, as it doesn’t share any machinery with the rest of Honda’s lineup and serves as the face of Honda’s EV initiative. In short, it needed to be a real success story to stay alive, and unfortunately, it has not been. Q2 2026 sales show the Prologue is down nearly 40 percent month-to-date for June, and even worse year-over-year, eating a 48.5-percent decline. This follows the drastic drop the Prologue suffered at the end of 2025, which was likely the beginning of the end. Speaking to CarBuzz, Honda stated that:

Honda will conclude sales of Prologue later this year following completion of the 2026 model year. Prologue customers will continue to receive full support through our dealer network, including service, parts, and warranty coverage.

This isn’t totally the Prologue’s fault, as it’s a decent EV, with our team test-driving it and noting that it’s a perfectly acceptable EV for the price. That said, EV popularity has been fluctuating ever since the federal tax credit expired, and those without big-EV-brand pull were left with a decision: end production, or try to weather the storm. The Prologue now falls into the former camp. Not to be dramatic, but the irony of it being named the Prologue, or beginning, when it actually serves as the final nail in Honda’s EV coffin (going the way of the Series 0 and Afeela models), is striking.

Honda Won’t Abandon Prologue Buyers

As Honda stated, support and warranty coverage will persist despite production ending. For reference, the Prologue comes with Honda Care, the brand’s comprehensive protection plan that spans three years or 36,000 miles; the high-voltage battery is covered for the industry-standard eight years or 100,000 miles. Another saving grace for Prologue owners is that it shares most of its parts with the Blazer EV, so if replacement parts are needed, they won’t be too hard to source, as GM has no plans to cease production of the Blazer EV.

A Cheeky Second-Hand Opportunity May Be In The Cards

With production ending and the Prologue already failing to maintain popularity in the EV market, used EV shoppers or those simply looking for a discounted model may want to keep the Prologue on their radar. When a car gets axed, there’s a good chance its prices take a dip. This is especially true for models that were already on a downward trend, like the Prologue.

This is similar to Polestar, which will be leaving the U.S. and leaving behind a handful of luxury performance EVs that were not widespread successes. Those models are likely to become bargain finds in the coming months and years, as discontinuation tends to tank resale values. The Prologue could follow suit, though possibly to a lesser extent, since Polestar has a much smaller support network than Honda, and its models are more expensive to begin with. Still, compelling Prologue discounts are likely in the near future, and with dealer support persisting, it may not be a bad move for bargain hunters looking for a solid electric SUV.
