Summary

The BMW iX5 is a mid-sized electric SUV that is set to arrive in the UK in Spring 2027. It is part of the latest fifth-generation X5 range which also includes diesel mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid model options. We will cover those ICE-powered variants separately.

The iX5 the third model from BMW’s Neue Klasse programme, following on from the BMW i3 and BMW iX3. While the SUV comes with similar design elements and tech as its Neue Klasse siblings, the iX5 is built on the same underpinnings as the previous X5 generation it replaces, instead of a dedicated electric car platform.

Strictly a five-seater, with no option to spec extra third row seating like prior X5 models, the SUV will be powered by a 141kWh battery – the largest ever battery fitted to a BMW model.

As of the time of writing, there aren’t many iX5 reviews published by the British motoring media, and none that are UK-based test drives. Once more reviews have been published closer to the SUV’s arrival in March 2027, and when we have collected running cost estimations for the model, we will update this page with an Expert Rating score. Reliability data provided exclusively for The Car Expert by MotorEasy

No reliability rating

As of August, we don’t have enough reliability data on the BMW iX5 to generate a reliability rating. The SUV isn’t on sale just yet, with it set to arrive on UK roads in 2027.

The Car Expert’s reliability information is provided exclusively to us using workshop and extended warranty data from our partner, MotorEasy, sourced from both official dealerships and independent workshops.

As soon as MotorEasy has sufficient data on the iX5, we’ll publish the results here.

Warranty rating

New car warranty information for the BMW iX5

New car warranty duration 3 years
New car warranty mileage Unlimited miles
Battery warranty duration 8 years
Battery warranty mileage 100,000 miles

BMW’s standard new car warranty is not much better than the bare minimum offered by car companies in the UK, running for three years, with no limit on mileage.

In addition to the standard new car warranty, there’s an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery components.

If you’re looking to buy a used car that is approaching the end of its warranty period, a used car warranty is usually a worthwhile investment. Check out The Car Expert’s guide to the best used car warranty providers, which will probably be cheaper than a warranty sold by a dealer.

Recalls

Official DVSA safety recalls that have been issued for the BMW iX5

As of August 2026, we are not aware of any DVSA vehicle safety recalls affecting the BMW iX5. The model is yet to arrive in the UK at the time of writing.

You can check to see if your car has any outstanding recalls by visiting the DVLA website or contacting your local BMW dealer.
