One of the worst lies told by Hollywood movie props was when the ’70 Dodge Charger used in The Fast and the Furious was secretly powered by a Chevy small-block rather than a Mopar mill. The fake blower on top added insult to injury. Luckily for jaded purists, a Hemi was used under the hood of an on-screen Charger for Fast Five. Even better, that car is actually up for sale on Bring a Trailer.

The original version of Dom’s Charger featured in the first film is easily the most popular. It perfectly captured the top tier street muscle vibes of the era, with a menacing black finish that neatly buttoned everything up. But if you ask me which one I’d actually want to own, this is it.

Sure, a blower poking out of the hood and a nice paint job are great, but this truly was the version of the car that motivated me as a young man with my own second-gen Charger early on. I personally prefer the undisturbed body lines, and the raw, unfinished driver look captures the subgenre of muscle car culture that stole my heart in the 2010s.

This car isn’t just a looker, though. It actually has a 426 second-gen Hemi under the hood. So, not only is this the pinnacle of Fast Chargers, but it’s the height of Mopar muscle. That’s not all you get in terms of equipment, though. Behind it is a 727 paired with a sidewinder shifter, disc brakes keep you composed, it has a proper exhaust system with full-length headers, and there’s even a line lock so you can easily fry the tires at will—not that a Hemi needs much help with that anyway. It’s even got a Dana 60, meaning the future owner doesn’t have to worry about breaking anything if they decide to push it hard.

Is it the prettiest Charger from the franchise? No. But it is arguably the most authentic. This is truly a driver’s car, not just a show pony with the right looks. The only bad thing about it is that the future owner will almost certainly lock it away as a trophy, rather than drive it as they should. Now is your chance to change that, though. The auction is auction is still live for a few days. You still have time to make a bid and see what happens.
