Numbers don’t tell the whole story. In an era where horsepower figures and 0-to-60 times dominate the conversation, it’s easy to scroll past a motorcycle that doesn’t immediately dazzle on paper — only to discover, once you’re in the saddle, that it’s one of the most rewarding rides you’ve ever had. That’s the cruel irony of spec-sheet culture: the bikes that stir something in you aren’t always the ones with the biggest numbers.

Some genuinely excellent motorcycles get overlooked because a rival in the same segment grabs more headlines, or because a sibling model in the same manufacturer’s lineup casts a long shadow. Whether it’s a cruiser, a naked, or a sports bike, there are machines out there that reward riders far beyond what their price tags or spec sheets suggest. Here are nine underrated bikes that punch well above their weight.

CFMoto 450NK

Price: $4,899

CFMoto

We’re always going on about how the KTM 390 Duke is a great motorcycle, with an unbeatable combination of features and performance. But CFMoto’s 450NK offers more power, twice as many cylinders, and a host of features that make life easier for the rider. The front brake is a 320 mm J.Juan disc with a four-piston radially mounted fixed caliper, fuel injection is handled by Bosch, and both USB-C and USB-A charging ports are included. The 5-inch TFT display comes with Bluetooth and CFMoto RideSync connectivity as standard.

Moto Morini Calibro 700

Moto Morini

For less than 10 percent more than the KLX300, Moto Morini will happily hand you the keys to the Calibro 700 — a twin-cylinder machine with more than twice the displacement. It also packages ABS, a part-analog LCD instrument cluster, and enough performance to cruise the highways comfortably. It is one of only a handful of cruisers in this price bracket to offer a belt final drive, which eliminates the hassle of chain maintenance for riders who rack up serious miles. The Calibro 700 delivers remarkable value at a price that rivals cruisers from a segment below.

Kawasaki KLX300

The KLX300 is, surprisingly, the largest-displacement dual-sport bike that Kawasaki offers. It has just under 300 cc and a six-speed gearbox, which makes it just about capable of doing short highway runs. That’s not all you’ll want to do with it, though. Its light weight and willing engine make it genuinely capable off-road, regardless of your skill level. It doesn’t have ABS or traction control, and to be honest, it doesn’t need them given the modest power it produces. It does have a spark arrestor as standard, which opens up a far wider range of off-road destinations for riders who love to explore.

CFMoto 675SS

CFMoto

Yamaha’s YZF-R9 has been making waves in the middleweight sports bike segment by offering decent power and an inline three-cylinder engine, but it costs $12,499. The CFMoto 675SS delivers similar thrills at around 65 percent of that price. You get 95 horsepower, Bosch fuel injection, J.Juan brakes (twin 300 mm discs with radial four-piston fixed calipers up front), dual-channel ABS, fully adjustable KYB suspension, adjustable traction control, a quickshifter for upshifts, a tire pressure monitoring system, steering damper, USB-C charging port, slipper clutch, and a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. Quite the package.

Honda CB1000 Hornet SP

Honda Powersports

Liter-class streetfighters have been keeping pace with their faired siblings, offering more power, more performance, more features, more everything — and more cost, to the point where the big nakeds were becoming trailer queens for all but the wealthiest buyers. Honda has taken a different approach with the CB1000 Hornet SP, delivering a genuinely usable liter naked for the US market, backed by some serious hardware.

The best that Öhlins and Brembo have to offer on track-day machines are present on the big Hornet. The engine produces just under 160 horsepower in global trim — more than enough for most riders on any given day — though the US-spec version comes in at just under 130 horsepower. You also get a near-complete electronics suite for safety, plus a quickshifter. Now if only there were a way to reclaim that lost power.

Kove 800X Pro

Kove Moto

Kove is a Chinese brand making similar moves to CFMoto and Moto Morini, offering strong products at eye-opening prices in the off-road segment. Some of its machines are genuine race bikes that you can take straight to the Dakar Rally, but the 800X Pro is a more road-friendly, street-legal proposition. You still get a 95-horsepower machine with fully adjustable suspension featuring inverted forks and around 9 inches of travel at both ends, ride modes, switchable ABS, traction control, cruise control, a two-way quickshifter, a TFT display, and spoke tubeless rims. The headline figure, though, is the curb weight: at 418 pounds fully fueled, it is 50 to 100 pounds lighter than most rivals in the segment.

Honda NT1100 DCT

Honda

The NT1100 DCT is Honda’s sport tourer, slotting into the lineup right alongside the Africa Twin Adventure Sports. In fact, it shares a similar chassis and the same drivetrain, but with road-biased wheels and tires. This is a full-size tourer built for all-day riding — rider, pillion, and luggage all accounted for. The automatic DCT gearbox makes it even more accessible; it remains the only tourer with an automatic transmission available anywhere near this price point. It competes on price with middleweight sport tourers while delivering full-size capability, much the same way the Hornet undercuts the naked-bike segment.

Engine Type

BMW R 18

Price: $15,395

2025 BMW R 18
BMW Motorrad

BMW’s largest engine to date sits at the heart of the long, low-slung R 18 cruiser. It was built to take on the full-size cruisers and tourers from America, but it does so in a distinctly German fashion. The design is unmistakable, with standout details like the submarine-shaped engine and exposed driveshaft. The styling has been refined for the current model year, but the R 18 retains its core appeal: full-size cruiser presence at a midsize price.

Suzuki Boulevard M109R BOSS

Suzuki Cycles

The bigger of the two Boulevards is like a shark — it hasn’t changed much since it was launched, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sure, it could use some modern updates (so could the sharks), but as it stands, it’s very difficult to argue against. The Boulevard M109R BOSS costs less than a Harley-Davidson Sportster S while being a full-size cruiser, and this Suzuki brings shaft drive and GSX-R-derived brakes to the table. That engine isn’t just the most powerful unit in a cruiser under $20,000 — its power and torque peaks are a remarkable 3,000 RPM apart, giving it a broad, usable spread of performance.
