The traditional 600cc inline-four supersport class is changing, quickly being replaced by Next Generation supersport models like the KTM 990 RC R, Yamaha YZF-R9, and Ducati Panigale V2. Yet, there are a few holdouts, and one of them is the venerable Suzuki GSX-R600, which is returning for 2027. The GSX-R sportbike is slightly more expensive and is available in two new colors, as well as the carry-over 40th Anniversary Edition.
The Suzuki GSX-R600 debuted in 1997 with the start of the 600cc Supersport World Championship (then called the Supersport World Series), which was later elevated to world championship status in 1999. The GSX-R sportbike is now in its fifth generation, introduced in 2011. Despite its age, the GSX-R600 is said to offer championship-winning performance built on decades of production roadracing dominance.
Suzuki says the GSX-R600 is built for both road and circuit use, which is a claim that has its merits even today.. For 2027, it carries over its compact, high-revving inline-four engine, lightweight chassis, and analog nature that have earned it a reputation for exceptional agility and control. Here’s more about this returning Japanese sportbike.
With the discontinuation of the Yamaha YZF-R6 and the rise of parallel-twin middleweight sportbikes, the GSX-R600 remains one of the last 600cc supersport models, joined by the Kawasaki ZX-6R and Honda CBR600RR. At its heart is a compact 599cc four-banger engine with a race-proven oversquare layout that is said to deliver strong high-rpm power.
The manufacturer claims the 4-into-1 stainless steel exhaust with titanium muffler and electronically controlled butterfly valve is tuned to optimize low- to mid-range torque and throttle response. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a close-ratio 6-speed gearbox with a tall first gear, shorter second through sixth gears, and a slipper clutch.
The 2027 Suzuki GSX-R600 retains the twin-spar aluminum frame, designed for light weight, strength, and exceptional agility. Showa handles suspension duties, with a non-adjustable Big Piston Front (BPF) USD fork and a fully adjustable rear shock with a remote reservoir. Dual fully floating 310mm discs with Brembo radial-mount 4-piston calipers and a single rear disc with a Nissin 1-piston caliper handle braking.
The package weighs 412 pounds wet, and Suzuki says it enables a comfortable riding position thanks to a 31.9-inch seat height, adjustable footpegs and shift lever, and a short fuel tank.
On the tech front, the GSX-R supersport features a compact instrument cluster with a built-in lap timer/stopwatch and programmable shift light, an LED taillight, and two engine control maps for road and track. The lack of rider aids such as ABS and traction control also makes this sportbike the most analog model in the segment.
The Suzuki GSX-R600 is available in Candy Daring Red and Metallic Matte Black No.2 color options and has an MSRP of $12,499, $300 more than the 2026 model year. The GSX-R600Z 40th Anniversary Edition, with its special livery, is virtually unchanged but gets a similar $300 price hike over the previous year, now carrying an MSRP of $12,699. Both GSX-R600 models are available at Suzuki dealerships in the US.
