There’s a point where obscene horsepower stops being about performance and dips into pure bragging rights. Smash through that mental barrier and bragging rights give way to legitimate threats to local infrastructure.
But after that, if you keep turning the dial, the whole mess comes back around again and you end up with the kind of 4,000+ horsepower monstrosity that helps equally ridiculous cars cover an eighth-mile drag strip in 3.542 seconds at 213.88 miles per hour.
You know. Give or take.
This Hemi we found at the 2026 SEMA Show, which, again, you do not need, comes from ProCharger, whose hardware helped deliver that stupidly fast run. Driver Joel Wensley Jr. is associated with the engine on display, although the record itself belongs to a different ProCharger-powered car.
This 540-Cubic-Inch Hemi Is Built For One Thing
At the heart of this mechanical abomination we found on the SEMA floor is a 540-cubic-inch Noonan 4.9 Hemi, an 8.8-liter V8 supplied by Disomma Racing Engines.
Air is force-fed into the thing by a ProCharger F-4X-140-2 centrifugal supercharger, which appears to operate with all the subtlety of an asthma inhaler with a chainsaw motor. Driving that enormous supercharger is ProCharger’s CrankDrive system, accompanied by a dual accessory drive that’s probably more powerful than your first car.
ProCharger says output exceeds 4,200 horsepower. If not for the company’s success setting drag strip records, we’d say that claim had some real campaign-promise-while-running-for-class-president energy, but in this case it feels about right.
