Most off-road vehicles promise to handle dirt, rocks, and the occasional ambitious jump. This one was designed to blast across the desert at triple-digit speeds for hundreds of miles without shaking itself into a very expensive pile of bolts.
It has more power than a 2025 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, a gigantic fuel cell, active race suspension, and full carbon-fiber bodywork. It’s also built in Minnesota, because apparently freezing winters are ideal for creating something designed to terrorize the desert.
The mystery machine is the new Polaris RZR Pro R Factory Boost, a purpose-built side-by-side created for open-desert racing. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter ProStar Fury four-cylinder produces up to 400 horsepower, giving it the punch required for brutal launches, high-speed passes, and attacks on terrain that would make most pickup trucks quietly turn around.
Polaris also extended the wheelbase by 6.5 inches to 111 inches, reinforced key chassis sections, and widened the cockpit by two inches. The new cage adds strength, while the roomier cabin is designed to feel more like a proper race car than a traditional side-by-side. There is even full carbon-fiber bodywork shaped using computational fluid dynamics at speeds exceeding 100 mph. This is not a recreational RZR wearing some fancy stickers. It was engineered to move very quickly across places where roads have simply given up.
The Factory Boost carries a massive 45-gallon fuel cell that extends its range beyond 200 miles and reduces time wasted in the pits. Race-tuned DYNAMIX DV suspension uses three-inch internal-bypass Live Valve shocks with beefier one-inch shafts, while a FOX steering damper helps keep the front wheels pointed in the correct general direction after enormous impacts.
Integrated MoTeC electronics include an M150 ECU and two power distribution modules, giving race teams greater control over the machine’s systems. Polaris will offer the Factory Boost alongside the existing Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory rather than replacing it, giving racers a choice between two factory-developed weapons.
Predictably, none of this comes cheap. Pricing starts at $200,000, which puts this side-by-side in Porsche 911 territory before the owner has purchased a helmet, trailer, spare parts, and a convincing explanation for their spouse. Production will be limited, with the first ordering window closing on February 15, 2027.
The RZR Factory Racing team will debut the new machine at the 2027 King of the Hammers. That should be the perfect place to discover whether 400 hp, carbon fiber, and serious race engineering can keep Polaris at the front of the pack or simply create the fastest way imaginable to rearrange a desert.
