The Most Powerful Mustang Convertible Ever Has Arrived With 795 HP
Ford Mustang convertibles have traditionally been the laid-back members of Ford’s pony car family. They deliver the V8 soundtrack, classic styling, and plenty of speed, but the really serious hardware usually stays with the coupes. Ford Racing has now decided that open-air Mustang fans deserve something far more outrageous. Its latest creation combines a reinforced convertible chassis with modern suspension technology, an ultra-fast transmission, and enough supercharged fury to make the old Shelby GT500 convertible look surprisingly restrained.
This is not a stripped-out track special chasing lap records. Ford has built it for fast road trips, nighttime blasts, and anyone who believes a roaring V8 sounds even better without a roof blocking the noise.
The Dark Horse SC Convertible Unleashes 795 Horsepower
The 2027 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible packs a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. That makes it the most powerful production Mustang convertible ever built and gives open-air Ford fans nearly 800 horses to summon with their right foot.
For comparison, the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible made 662 hp from its supercharged 5.8-liter V8. That car was already considered completely bonkers, yet the new Dark Horse SC beats it by 133 hp. Ford has effectively taken its old roofless monster and fed it a steady diet of protein shakes and supercharger whine. All that power reaches the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. There is no traditional manual option mentioned, which may upset purists, but the rapid-fire gearbox should keep the supercharged V8 boiling while delivering brutal acceleration with minimal effort.
Ford has not revealed a 0-60 mph time or top speed yet. However, with 795 hp and a dual-clutch transmission, this drop-top should be seriously quick once somebody pins the throttle and lets all those horses charge into daylight.
Ford Racing Strengthened The Mustang For Supercharged Power
Removing a car’s roof also removes a major structural component, which is why convertibles can feel less rigid than their coupe siblings. That becomes an even bigger concern when the engine is trying to twist the body with 660 lb-ft of torque. The Dark Horse SC Convertible begins with the Mustang GT convertible’s architecture, but Ford Racing adds a lightweight magnesium brace connecting the suspension towers across the engine bay. This helps the chassis cope with the extra power while improving structural rigidity.
Ford also fits a specially calibrated version of its next-generation MagneRide suspension. The system can deliver a comfortable ride while cruising, then tighten everything when the driver leans into the accelerator and starts behaving like there is a checkered flag waiting at the next stoplight.
Unlike the Dark Horse SC coupe, the convertible was not developed primarily to destroy lap times. Ford calls it the ultimate top-down grand tourer, which means it should be happier attacking a long, winding highway than spending an entire day chewing through track tires.
That does not make it soft. It simply means Ford has tuned this badass Mustang to deliver huge speed without rattling its occupants like loose change inside a dryer.
This Mustang Delivers Supercharger Whine With Unlimited Headroom
Dropping the roof gives the Dark Horse SC Convertible something its coupe sibling cannot match: completely unrestricted access to that V8 soundtrack. Drivers will hear the exhaust rumble, supercharger whine, and lightning-fast gear changes without a steel roof muting the mechanical symphony.
Ford has also given the car a personality distinct from the track-focused coupe. Precision Purple joins the exterior color palette, along with a unique brake-caliper finish and premium Black Onyx or Space Gray interior treatments. The styling retains the Dark Horse SC’s aggressive attitude, but the convertible roof adds some old-school American swagger. It is less about sneaking around anonymously and more about arriving with the roof lowered while nearly 800 hp announces your presence several blocks early.
Orders will open in fall 2026, with the first cars reaching Ford dealerships in spring 2027. Pricing has not been announced, but something sitting above the regular Dark Horse and packing a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 will not be cheap. Still, this is the first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013. Ford fans have waited more than a decade for another roofless beast, and the Dark Horse SC returns with more power, smarter suspension, and enough supercharger noise to make every tunnel feel like a private concert venue.
