Since its inception in 1901, Indian Motorcycles has been in constant production for longer than we can remember. Sure, there were some rocky times and ownership changes, but the brand has always navigated them well to come back on top. A lot of that is thanks to its deep know-how of the two-wheeler world and constant innovation to keep up with changing rider needs.

That has eventually birthed some brilliant up-to-date motorcycles, most of which have been cruisers. Some of these try to spoil you with brilliant value, while others prioritize luxury and an authentic feel. And if the latter is what gets you fired up, we have an excellent recommendation that feels like American luxury on two wheels.

Indian Motorcycle’s Cruiser Lineup Is Well Spread In 2026

Speaking of Indian’s cruiser lineup, there are several bikes to choose from. The Scout Sixty range kicks things off with a handful of budget options, featuring the small SpeedPlus 999 V-twin powerhouse. The $9,999 Scout Sixty Bobber is the cheapest, followed by the Sport Scout Sixty and Scout Sixty Classic. Neither of these justify the ‘luxury’ tag in their base trims, though.

Next up is the Scout lineup, which has the bigger, fully liquid-cooled SpeedPlus 1250 V-twin powerhouse. The range starts with the $12,999 Scout Bobber, going on to the Sport Scout, Scout Classic, and Super Scout. There’s also a special 101 Scout model with more power, better underpinnings, and modern features. As luxurious as the 101 feels, the fully liquid-cooled engine doesn’t fit the American vibe in our books.

That’s where the top-drawer Chief lineup comes in, employing the Thunderstroke 116 air-cooled V-twin engine. This is arguably the most American-feeling powerhouse in Indian’s lineup, courtesy of its large capacity and oodles of low-end torque rather than a focus on horsepower. In the Chief lineup lie five bikes–Chief, Chief Bobber, Sport Chief, Super Chief, and Chief Vintage–out of which one truly gets you a luxury experience.

We’re talking about the Super Chief. This is one of Indian’s flagship touring-ready cruiser bikes on sale today, which is why it fits the title perfectly. The flagship nature means you get the company’s largest-capacity powerhouse, a handful of new-age technologies, and premium build quality, whereas the ‘touring-ready’ nature brings bits like hard saddlebags, a thick two-up saddle, and a tall transparent windscreen.

Things get sweeter when you consider the starting price of $21,999. This might seem steep, as it is $2,000 pricier than the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic’s MSRP. But you should know that the Harley neither has a pillion seat and windscreen nor spoke wheels in its base trim. H-D will charge you $2,000 extra for the seat and windscreen, while the spoke wheels cost $850 extra. So, in an apples-to-apples trim, the Super Chief is actually cheaper. Not to mention, the Harley still feels basic in the cockpit, while the Indian is considerably more premium.

The Indian Super Chief seamlessly merges the iconic American V-twin style with modern performance and technology while embracing a simplistic and mechanical aesthetic that pays homage to the golden era of American motorcycling. – Indian

A Deep Dive Into The 2026 Indian Super Chief

Diving into what you get for the money, this is one of the most loaded Indian cruisers from the factory. And unlike smaller Scouts, there is no optional trim that you have to pay extra for. You simply have to choose between the finish (Chrome or Black) and color (Black Metallic, Chalk, or Red Metallic). All of these have the same features and mechanical bits.

The Thunderstroke Engine Brings Dollops Of Torque

Speaking of mechanicals, the Thunderstroke 116 engine takes center stage here. This is Indian’s largest V-twin engine, measuring 116ci (1,900cc) via a bore and stroke of 103.2 mm and 113 mm, respectively. That, along with a compression ratio of 11:1, helps churn out 120 pound-feet at just 2,900 RPM. The brand doesn’t specify a horsepower output, although independent dyno tests reveal around 74 horsepower at the wheel. A six-speed transmission transmits all the power, featuring a belt final-drive system.

Like the engine, the underpinnings are properly American-feeling. A sturdy steel double-cradle chassis nests the engine, while being sprung on 46 mm telescopic forks and dual rear shock absorbers. The latter has preload adjustment, which should be very useful when you load up the saddlebags and take a passenger. This is tied up with 16-inch spoke wheels, each of which has a single 300 mm disc brake and beefy tires (130-section front, 180-section rear).

With steel as the choice for all other parts and overall large dimensions, this is one hefty cruiser. The weight lies at 739 pounds, with the four-gallon tank fueled up. The weight should bring with it brilliant stability at speed, though. Elsewhere, the seat height is uber-low at 26.2 inches, and the ground clearance is decent at 4.9 inches.

Factory-Fitted Touchscreen TFT Leads The Luxury Touch

Last but not least, let’s talk luxury. It all begins well before you sit on the Super Chief, thanks to premium livery options and good attention to detail. The latter comprises all-LED lights, a side-mounted plateholder, bobbed fenders, and massive feet-forward floorboards. A closer look also reveals premium leather on both saddles and the saddlebags with chrome touches. Once aboard, the luxury only rises.

Despite the old-school look, the cockpit is more modern than any other American cruiser. This is courtesy of Indian’s four-inch touchscreen TFT that comes loaded with information. You can not only look at regular necessities like fuel efficiency, speed, time, temperature, and range to empty, but you also get display modes and phone connectivity via Ride Command. Once connected to the app, you can enjoy full display maps, phone notifications, and phone controls. In comparison, no Harley Softail has such a digital display.

Then, there are the rider aids and creature comforts. A ride-by-wire system allows three ride modes (each of which changes the throttle response), while dual-channel ABS and cruise control bring extra convenience. You also get rear cylinder deactivation, keyless ignition, and a USB port. There are two misses–traction control and TPMS–although neither is a deal-breaker in our books.
