Italy’s Police Just Got A 900-HP Lamborghini, But It’s Not For Pursuit
Italy’s State Police already has one of the most ridiculous police fleets on the planet, and Lamborghini has just made it considerably faster. The automaker has officially handed over a new Lamborghini Temerario that will join the force for some considerably more important work than chasing speeders.
Unveiled at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters on September 4, the Temerario will be used for high-priority duties including the emergency transportation of organs and medical supplies. It also continues a relationship between Lamborghini and the Italian State Police that stretches back more than two decades, and the cars have already been involved in hundreds of potentially life-saving missions.
Italy’s New Police Lamborghini Has 920 CV And Three Electric Motors
There aren’t many situations where a Lamborghini’s performance could genuinely become a matter of life and death, but emergency organ transportation is one of them. The Temerario’s all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 works alongside three electric motors to produce a combined 907 horsepower.
That powertrain can push the standard Temerario from 0-62 mph in 2.7 seconds, while Lamborghini currently lists its top speed at roughly 213 mph. The combustion engine alone can spin to an extraordinary 10,000 rpm. Those numbers sound like overkill for a police car until you consider what this particular Lamborghini is being asked to do. Lamborghini says the Temerario will be deployed on some of the State Police’s most important services, specifically highlighting urgent organ and medical-supply transportation. It won’t be working alone, either.
Lamborghini Has Been Giving Italy Supercar Police Cars Since 2004
Lamborghini’s relationship with the Italian State Police began in 2004 with a Gallardo, and that car was already being used to transport an organ by September of the same year. The original Gallardo was eventually followed by a Gallardo LP 560-4 and Huracán, with the supercars deployed along Italy’s major motorways. Then things got even more interesting in 2023 when a Urus Performante joined the fleet. The new Temerario now becomes the latest chapter in a partnership that’s been running for more than 20 years.
And these aren’t simply promotional cars dressed in police liveries for photo opportunities. Lamborghini says six of its vehicles have entered the Italian State Police fleet over the course of the partnership, participating in more than 200 organ-transport missions across Italy. The automaker says the cars have helped save lives in several cases. They’ve also been used for considerably slower work. Lamborghini says its police cars have participated in more than 1,500 road-safety education events aimed at promoting safe driving.
This Might Be The Best Reason For A 213-MPH Police Car
A 920-CV Lamborghini wearing police colors is always going to generate attention, but the Temerario’s actual job makes this considerably more interesting than another exotic police-car publicity stunt. When an organ needs to move across Italy as quickly as possible, outright performance suddenly has a legitimate purpose. The Temerario brings a 2.7-second sprint to 62 mph, a roughly 213-mph top speed and Lamborghini’s newest hybrid powertrain to a fleet that already has more than 200 organ-transport missions behind it.
The Temerario also represents a pretty dramatic evolution from the Gallardo that started the partnership in 2004. Lamborghini has gone from supplying Italy’s police with a naturally aspirated supercar to handing them a 907 hp electrified supercar powered by a twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors. For most Temerario owners, all of that engineering exists to make one of Lamborghini’s newest supercars brutally fast. This one has a considerably more important reason to get somewhere in a hurry.
