American Honda has announced a recall affecting 4,206 Honda Shadow and Honda Fury cruisers due to fuel pump failures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) lists the campaign as Recall No. 26V633, and Honda tracks it internally under recall codes KU9, KV0 and KV1.

What Models Are Impacted

Honda

Most of the recall is aimed at 2024 to 2025 Honda Shadow (VT750), potentially affecting 3,386 units, manufactured between March 24, 2023, and January 17, 2025. The remaining 820 units are 2023 to 2025 Honda Fury (VT1300CX) models, produced from March 28, 2023, through March 12, 2025. Honda estimates roughly 1 percent of these bikes will be impacted by the defect, though letting dealers replace your potentially troubled fuel pump for free is never a bad thing.

The culprit is an offending fuel pump, part number 16700-HN8-6011-M1, built by Astemo Lamphun Ltd. in Lamphun, Thailand. Inside the pump’s electric motor sits a commutator made of carbon and phenol. At the supplier’s plant, worn equipment used to surface-finish said commutator developed chuck wobble and tool misalignment, causing the entire issue. Tiny phenol fragments ended up wedged in the commutator slits.

Once the pump runs, those fragments scrub the carbon brush and shed carbon dust. Under certain conditions, that dust bridges neighboring commutator segments, current spikes, and localized heat can melt resin components and wear down the brush holder and commutator. Eventually, the pump loses electrical continuity and stops flowing fuel. On the road, that means a stall or a bike that refuses to start, either of which raises crash risk.

Honda

Honda first learned of the issue on April 5, 2024, and caught another case during final inspection at its own plant that July. Root-cause work with the supplier stretched for more than two years before Honda declared a safety defect on September 24, 2026. The company reports 48 warranty claims and no injuries or deaths.

Worth noting: the filing carries “Do Not Drive” and “Park Outside” consumer advisories. If your bike is on the list, Honda is advising that it is stored outdoors.

Authorized Honda Powersports dealers will replace the fuel pump with an improved unit. The supplier switched its commutator surfacing method from cutting to grinding on September 9, 2026. Owners who already paid for this repair may qualify under Honda’s general reimbursement plan.

Dealers were notified September 25, 2026. Owner letters roll out in phases around November 27, 2026. Owners of certain 2024 to 2025 VT750s will receive remedy notices, while owners of certain 2024 VT750s and all 2023 to 2025 Fury models will get interim letters, meaning parts aren’t ready yet, and a follow-up notice will arrive later.

Check Your VIN

As with all recalls, riders are encouraged to search for their specific motorcycle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall lookup tool here, though recently filed campaigns can take time to appear. You can also call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or review the full recall documentation, here.
