Ford is recalling 2,276 F-150 pickups because front-seat mounting bolts may be missing or improperly tightened, potentially allowing seats to shift during a crash and compromising occupant protection. The recall covers 2025-2027 trucks built between August 25, 2025, and September 23, 2026. Ford reports no related crashes or injuries.

Dealers will inspect and tighten or replace the bolts for free. Owner notification letters are scheduled for October 26-30, 2026. The recall carries Ford’s number 26S74 and NHTSA’s designation 26V-655. Owners can call 1-866-436-7332 or check their VIN through NHTSA.

How A Missing Bolt Made It Past The Factory Floor

The defect surfaced in June 2026 when a dealership technician discovered a missing driver’s seat bolt and an improperly seated passenger bolt on a 2026 F-150. Ford traced the problem to an assembly workstation where an operator couldn’t secure the seat within the allotted cycle time. Although the line automatically stopped and flagged the truck for repair, a team leader marked the work complete despite the bolts remaining loose or missing.

Investigators reviewed tool data, repair logs, and warranty records, identifying 56 warranty claims and 16 field reports across 62 unique VINs. Ford’s Field Review Committee approved the recall on September 29 after confirming that some affected trucks reached customers without proper repairs.

Why A Loose Seat Bolt Matters In A Crash

Front seats are essential to occupant protection, working alongside seat belts and airbags. If a seat isn’t securely attached, excessive movement during a collision could compromise the restraint system’s effectiveness. Owners might notice rattling or unusual seat movement, which warrants a dealer inspection even before receiving a recall letter.

Not every recalled F-150 necessarily has defective bolts, but Ford is inspecting the entire affected population because of the potential safety consequences.

The Second Seat Recall In Weeks, And A Broader Pattern

The seat-bolt recall arrives amid several other F-150 safety campaigns. Ford has separately recalled 2023-2027 F-150s over improperly secured fuel tank mounting straps and 102,159 F-Series trucks over malfunctioning analog gauges. Ford has issued 80 recalls in 2026, more than twice as many as any other automaker this year, following a record 153 recalls in 2025.

The latest issue highlights a manufacturing oversight: unfinished assembly work was incorrectly recorded as complete, allowing potentially unsafe vehicles to leave the factory. Although only 2,276 trucks are affected, the consequences of loose seat mounting bolts make the recall worth checking. Owners can search NHTSA’s database using their VIN and arrange a free inspection and repair at a Ford dealership.
