A New Lexus LFA Like This Makes Modern Supercars Look Boring
The Lexus LFA is a two-seater supercar which had a short model run in the Lexus lineup from 2011-2013. After a series of concepts in the early 2000’s, the production LFA sought to be an iconic, global vehicle to represent the Lexus brand. Over the course of its life, only five hundred LFAs ever made it into production, making the car not only powerful and sporty but also rare.
For JDM enthusiasts, particularly those for the Lexus brand, the idea of a revived LFA is a highly desirable concept. While Toyota already has plans to reintroduce the successor of the Lexus LFA, we did our own take a while ago on what we wanted to see from an all-new 2028 Lexus LFA.
Modern Lexus LFA Render
Styling on our render of the LFA takes some inspiration from the stock Lexus, with the sloping roofline and overall supercar coupe design. The render has a somewhat lower profile than a production LFA and has an updated headlight and front lip design that modernizes the Japanese supercar from its original design. The pillars on the render blend seamlessly with the windshield and roofline, giving the car more of a flowing, aerodynamic appearance.
The render removes the side air intakes the production LFA wore and completely re-designs the rear of the car. The back of the car on the render adds bolder lines and a more prominent rear diffuser, completely changing the look of the car from the production model. The design also has rounder edges than many modern supercars, evoking a somewhat Dodge Viper-like profile, more than the production LFA did. The overall design of this new LFA nods to the original car while bringing the LFA into a modern era of supercars.
A Modern Powertrain For This New Lexus LFA
The Lexus LFA’s production followed years of development to create the exact type of car that Lexus wanted to produce. Lexus partnered with Yamaha to build a V10 engine that outputs 553 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque and could propel the LFA from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, from 0 to 100 mph in 7.6 seconds, and reach a 202-mph top speed. The combination of it all lead to enthusiasm among those who got the opportunity to drive the desirable LFA as the engineering and efforts to make the car paid off.
However, Lexus no longer produces such an exotic high-performance engine as the glorious Yamaha V10 in the original LFA. While Lexus does still build some performance-oriented cars, such as the 472 horsepower 5.0-liter V8 Lexus RC F, that type of power wouldn’t quite cut it when the original had over 550 hp.
To compete with modern supercars like the Ferrari 296 GTB or McLaren Artura, the LFA would need to take on a hybrid powertrain combined with a powerful turbocharged engine. We already know that the 2028 Toyota GR GT features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid system, and we think in the LFA we could see power levels could easily exceed 800-900 hp, making it a strong competitor in the supercar market.
We might see the production LFA successor very soon, but this render offers a nice visualization of what we thought Lexus would do, and if you compare it to the recently revealed Lexus LFA Concept, we have to admit that Toyota did a pretty good job, and so did our digital render artists.
