Bucking the Chinese EV trend towards all-out digitisation and minimal dashboards, the Altior features an extensive suite of physical buttons and switches – albeit alongside a full-width, Mercedes-esque touchscreen.

Yangwang said it ensured these had suitable sound and feel by tapping them with small hammers during development.

Beyond tactility, Yangwang emphasised the sheer spaciousness and decadence of the Altior’s interior, claiming a huge 1209mm of leg room in the rear (that’s half a Citroën Ami), while “aviation-style zero-gravity seats” are said to support a “deeply relaxed” seating position.

Each is naturally equipped with a massage function and can fully recline in Relaxation mode, which also closes the blinds, softens the lighting and raises the leg rests.

Like in the BMW i7, there’s a 21.4in cinema screen that folds down from the ceiling for conference calls and entertainment, while refrigerators in the front and rear ensure the champagne is cold at all times for all occupants.

The Altior is based on the same architecture as Yangwang’s other models, so it uses a similar quad-motor electric powertrain – output undisclosed but tank turning confirmed – and rides on the brand’s advanced DiSus active suspension, which monitors the road ahead and prepares the car for bumps and changes in terrain.
