Aston Martin has unveiled the Valhalla Spider, an open-top version of its mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar that can reach 217mph with its roof removed.

The Spider is the fastest open-cockpit Aston Martin ever produced, retaining the performance of the Valhalla Coupé while introducing a removable roof and several changes to its aerodynamics.

It is also the British manufacturer’s first mid-engined open-top production supercar, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

Three roof configurations

Unlike conventional convertibles with electrically folding roofs, the Valhalla Spider uses a removable roof panel.

A black fabric roof is supplied as standard, although the car’s maximum speed is limited to 124mph when it is fitted. Buyers can instead specify a carbon fibre hardtop, which allows the Spider to reach its full 217mph top speed with the roof in place.

With either roof removed, the Spider can also reach 217mph, making it faster than any previous open-top Aston Martin.

To accommodate the open cockpit, Aston Martin has redesigned the air intake behind the seats and introduced a removable wind deflector to direct airflow away from occupants.

The car’s active aerodynamics, which use movable bodywork to improve grip and stability at high speeds, have also been recalibrated to account for the roof being fitted or removed.

The Spider retains the Coupé’s carbon fibre construction and upward-opening doors, although the latter have been modified to make getting in and out easier.

Same V8 hybrid powertrain

The Valhalla Spider uses the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the Coupé, combining a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine with three electric motors.

Together, they produce 1,064hp and 1,100Nm of torque, with two electric motors driving the front wheels and a third assisting the petrol engine at the rear.

The Spider also retains the Coupé’s eight-speed automatic gearbox and electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system.

Aston Martin has introduced new carbon fibre seats designed to improve comfort and access to the cabin. Buyers can alternatively choose the more supportive seats from the Coupé at no additional cost.

Very limited availability

The Aston Martin Valhalla Spider is intended for international customers, including the UK, although a specific British delivery timetable has not been announced. Worldwide deliveries are scheduled to begin between July and September 2027.

Aston Martin has not officially announced UK pricing for the Spider. The existing Valhalla Coupé starts at around £850,000, with the open-top version expected to cost considerably more.

It is likely that much of Aston’s Valhalla Spider allocation is already spoken for, with the Spider expected to account for approximately a quarter of all Vahalla models built.
