The coming model year is going to be an exciting one for Kawasaki, as the Japanese firm is positively on the gas, announcing several new models ahead of the 2026 EICMA in Milan, Italy. To that end, we’ve seen Kawasaki unveil the updated, longstanding middleweight 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 sportbike, roll out a new ADV-influenced KLX300 XPL ABS dual-sport (along with KLX300 platform updates), show off an additional 2027 Kawasaki KLR650 DF model, while also joining the middleweight sport-touring fray with its Kawasaki Versys 900 SE LT. And that’s just scratching the surface.
It appears there is more coming from Kawi, with the brand releasing another new model teaser of the ADV persuasion across its various social media channels. Our best guess? A new middleweight ADV model in the KLE family, which we’d speculate to be called the KLE650. Backing that guess, an Australian type-approval filing dated October 16 lists a Kawasaki LE650L carrying the model name KLE 650 (SE) was uncovered by Motorrad in Germany. Kawasaki has yet to officially announce any such model.
The roughly 20-second teaser video is true to marketing form, featuring intentionally obscured shots rife with jump cuts and dramatic music, though there are a few glimpses to whet a motorcyclist’s appetite. Some of those clips look a whole lot like the 2026 Kawasaki KLE500 we just finished testing.
Shown first is a new clutch cover that is not used on any 2026 or currently announced 2027 models. Furthermore, we can confidently say that this isn’t the same 451cc parallel-twin engine currently propelling the KLE500, Ninja 500, Z500, and Eliminator, as the engine mounting points are radically different.
Whether we’re looking at a single-cylinder or parallel-twin engine, or what the displacement is, is impossible to determine from the video. However, we can glean from the clip that the cover layout bears a striking resemblance to what’s found on the 649cc parallel-twin engine powering the Ninja, Z, and Versys 650 motorcycles. The clutch cover shown in the teaser has a similar bolt pattern, overall shape, and plastic cover cap. Notably, the oil filler cap is relocated in a higher position.
Other details show a dual-rotor braking setup, which would be a step up from the KLE500’s single-disc approach. If this were to be a larger-displacement ADV machine, we’d expect beefier braking to manage higher performance levels and more weight than its lightweight ADV sibling.
The teaser does give two strong indications that whatever this machine is, it will likely live in the KLE family. The KLE’s distinctive bright green frame is quite visible, though that observation applies to a great many Kawasaki motorcycles. More to the point, the bodywork is quite like that of the KLE500, specifically where the windscreen bolts to the fairing. In addition, the crash bars, auxiliary lights, and LED turn signals are remarkably close to what’s found on the current-generation KLE500.
EICMA 2026 is just around the corner, with trade days set for November 3–4 and public days running November 5–8 at Fiera Milano Rho, so, we won’t have to wait long to find out whether our hunch is right. Be sure to follow TopSpeed for all the upcoming EICMA announcements.
